Title: What Worked For Me Post by CZ Cluster on Nov 5th, 2012 at 2:43pm
So i Just wanted to post what was helpful for me the second and third around during a Cluster bout. A little history. I got my first CH in 2004 (shortly after being married) I always blamed it on my wife until i got diagnosed. Kind of a running joke i had going. Anyway, I made it through my first bout in about 4 weeks after undergoing CT's and other scans to figure out what was wrong with my head. I am sure everyone on here has gone through that. All came back negative.
Second time around in 2009 finally found a specialist that diagnosed me with CH's. I was at week 8 at that point and about at wits end. He put me on Depacon IV treatment for 3 days, 1 hr each day. Then prescribed Topamax for 1 month to start right after the third day. Gradually building up until the fourth week i was taking 2 pills a day at 50mg per pill. This time around i waited until i was about 4-5 weeks in and went to see the same doctor, same treatment, and it worked again. Now i realize that different treatments work for different people. I just wanted to share what worked for me. Hopefully it can help somebody else out on here. Both times after the Depacon IV it has stopped my Cluster then i stay on the preventative for 1 month thereafter. |

I'm glad you found something that worked. Both meds you mention tend to be in a neuro's arsenal when addressing CHs. They're worth a try, although I think you're experience with them is more positive than most of us. I tried both and neither did a darn thing for me. This I think is more common than not. Still, as you say, we're all different and the combo worked for you. Congratulations, stay well and pain free! blessings. lance
