Post by john.b90 on Sep 22nd, 2012 at 9:33pm
hi im john im 22 been suffering with c.h for about 4 years now and there really starting to get me down :( started another cycle about 3 days ago and since then im up 3-4 times a night and about 2 attacks during the day. seriously what have i done to the man up stairs to deserve this :( then to make things worse nobody seems to understand the pain i /we go through i sometimes feel my doctor doesn't even understand an i have now all but given up trying to seek help :( is it just me or does anyone else get alot of pain in there teeth on the side where the c.h usually is? i often know when a attack is starting due to my teeth start first. and this may only help for me but i always keep a can of beer in the fridge in fact ive had the same one for 2 years lol but i find that holding it on my temple an down the side of cheek really does help an if i can get to my can as soon as i feel it in my teeth i can sometimes stop the attack all together :) but like i say this might just be me lol might be worth trying thou an if your attacks are like mine u will! try anything :/ also when i first started to get c.h i found wetting a flannel an putting it in the microwave for 30 seconds the placing it on my temple also helped but i now find this less effective as the cold can. sometime when i am woken from my sleep drinking large glasses of water seems to help although this sometimes makes me sick. anyway i wont keep boring u lol just wondered if anyone else had any advice as like i say his is really starting to get me down now i really am sick of being in so much pain several times a day an just because other people can not see my illness or pain its just a "headache" (if only) i just don't know what to do any more even my two year old son runs round the home after raiding the fridge holding my can to his head shouting headache bless him :) but this just shows how often these are occurring i don't seem to get long breaks from them some times a week two if im lucky :( i also dread having a attack at work as i pace around like a little child looking for his mum and as other none c.h suffers don't understand i just look stupid i would really appreciate some feedback an appogise if i have bored you lol hope to hear from u soon
thanks . john.

You're certainly not alone, Jonn, given that you've just walked into the biggest un-fenced loonie bin outside of parliament house.

Welcome home.

hi im not taking anything really as i live in the uk and we get very different health care then you guys in the states. there is no point me taking any normal pain killers as the attacks come on too quickly and most times there gone before any type of pain killer would have chance to take effect. so as explained ive developed my own ways to deal with the pain lol. my doctor has referred me to a specialist where i had a m.r.i an was just told they think i have c.h an that was it i was sent on my way :( ive had to research alot to find out what they are then i come across this site which was a great relief as i now know im not going crazy an not exaggerating the pain.

John, the bad news is you have cluster headaches. The good news is there are so many effective means of dealing with it. You've stumbled onto one that many find effective: the application of something cold. It's just an intermediary however to more effective means: a regimen of O2, imitrex, and verapamil for example. The teeth thing: yup. The pain you feel is radiating along the trigeminal nerve. It can trigger most unpleasant sensations (read lots of pain) in your temple, jaw and teeth area, and ear. Please investigate a headache specialist and get some relief. blessings. lance

Welcome to the board John! Please stick around, but also visit the link Bob gave you. The ouchuk folks have done a great job mapping out the medical system on your side of the pond.
