Title: sumatriptan injections

Can anyone give me some info on the injections, side effects, long term use, how they make you feel when you use them, etc... Thanks

I use mine in the buttocks. When I first inject, I get what I call "The spiders up my back" feeling where I can actually feel the med running up my back to my head. Relief feels almost instant, although it's probably about 3-5 minutes. I feel hyper afterwards, but that's about it for side effects.

I'm one who "thinks" the trex extends my cycles. I stress the "think" part because my experience would hardly qualify as a scientific "cause and effect" study! I rely almost completely on 02 for aborts now, but ALWAYS have a trex stat kit in my car or nearby when on cycle.

I consider them magic.  As for the side effects - I feel a kind of weird pressure (not really in the chest - just overall) and when that pressure gets to my neck I know the pain will be gone soon.  As I have said before - I actually like the feeling because I know relief is coming.

As to long term side effects, I have done as much research as I can because I had assumed that the reason my old insurance would only give me 4 per month were because they were dangerous.  There are two studies (sorry I do not have a link - I had to pay for the reports) that I found which indicated no indications of any serious long term issues with Triptans, and - even more important - the only take two in a 24 hour period is bunk.  This assumes you don't have other heart issues.  I have taken as many as 5 shots in +/- 36 hours, and they have always worked.  Some feel that the imetrix causes rebounds.  I think that when in the middle of the tempest I just get a lot of hits - and would get no more nor less without taking the injections.  Main reason I try to hold off on using them is cost (same reason the insurance company only paid for 4 per month).  The dang things are spendy even though I get mine from Turkey.

Good luck

I've been using Imitrex injections every since they very first came out. I've used thousands of them over the years and have had no long term side effects. My short term side effects are PAIN RELIEF. If I take too big of a dose, then I get a burning sensation in my hands & on my shoulder blades (docs said it's 'squeezing' my heart). But other than those side effects ... it's kept me alive.

Much like everyone else, it has been my go to for aborting an attack. I inject it in my thigh, and the HA goes away anywhere from 7-12 minutes.

The negatives are the side effects. The meds wear off after a few hours, and rebound HAs are much more common. After abusing the drug for years, I noticed that Imitrex has taken its toll on my cognitive abilites [memory, coordination, etc]

My advice would be to only use Imitrex when you aren't close enough to an 02 tank.
