Title: Harbor Freight welding regulator
Post by slacker032 on Sep 20th, 2011 at 10:41pm
I'm having a little trouble adjusting and fine-tuning the air flow with this regulator.  Do you guys use the knob on the regulator to adjust the flow or do you use the knob on the actual tank?

With my e-tanks, I'm so use to cranking the valve on the tank all the way up and just clicking over to whatever LPM on the regulator.  Using this welding regulator seems to be so imprecise.

I open the valve on the tank all the way. Then SLOWLY open the valve on the regulator. Mine has plenty of fine tuning in it. If yours doesn't then I suggest something is wrong. If so, return it and get another one.

Good luck....

Is there supposed to be a gasket or o-ring that's supposed to come with the regulator for the regulator fitting and the cylinder outlet?  When I turn the cylinder valve on full blast, there's a lot of air leaking.

Did you tighten it with a wrench?

Didn't realize it needed to be tightened with a wrench.  Thanks, I'll give that a try.

When I brought my giant welding tank home a month or so ago, I didn't quite tighten the regulator down all of the way. Turned on the O2 to test the system and it was leaking air bad. Pulled out my adjustable wrench and tightened that thing down all the way until I couldn't see any more thread. No more leak after that.

They're generally brass fittings (between the valve and the regulator) without a gasket and need to be good and tight. There's a LOT of pressure behind there, as I'm sure you found out.
