Lidocaine did nothing for me. 02 knocked it in 10 minutes.

call me stupid  but, isn't lidocaine topical?   how would snorting it bring relief?  i'm not being flippant.... i'm truly asking.   i understand snorting a triptan which gets into the system and causes the blood vessels to constrict, thus relieving the pressure on the nerve.   i don't understand the mechanics behind this.

Tried 4.5% lidocaine spray with no benefit.

A sphenopalatine ganglion block with 1 ml 4% topical lidocaine drip did nothing for my CH - except I almost broke my neck hanging upside down over the back of the couch trying to drip it on the right spot.

A sphenopalatine ganglion block with 4% topical lidocaine applied with a nasal spray applicator did nothing for my CH - but it did freeze my nose, nasal passage, upper lip and cheek.  I couldn't smell anything or swallow very well for a couple hours.

Inhalation of 100% oxygen at flow rates between 25 liters/minute and 40 liters/minute aborts my CH in less than 4 minutes if I start early at the first indication of an attack.

Who sent you out fishing and how much are they paying?

Never tried it. Doc gave me O2 right away and I've never looked back.

I have tried it a couple of times.  I'm a paramedic and have easy access to it.  However it proved to be ineffective.  It is more than a topical application some of the drug gets absorbed into the membrains of the nose but it does not specificaly target any part of the anatomy(Trigeminal nerve) .  We actually use it as a first line drug in cardiac arrest and potentialy lethal Cardiac arrhythmias.

didna work...for me. best part tho...since it has to be compounded..the pharmacist was intrigued by this "ch thing".  i wasn't in the right frame of mind to totally educate...but I got a lot across...there are brothers and sisters who will benefit....

Tried it for a while a few years back (don't remember dosage).  Did nothing for the CH but my nose does get sore sometimes from pressing the O2 mask too hard against my face and it did help with that.

The theory behind it is that if applied properly, it helps reduce the inflammation and sensitivity of the trigeminal nerve, which is thought to be responsible for a good portion of cluster headache attack, but it HAS to be applied a very specific way. The success rate thus far has been pretty low, but like I originally stated, there are a few of us here that are working to compound the lidocaine solution with a couple herbs and essential oils to make it much more effective. Had decent results so far, but no where near done. thanks for the feedback.

I wish so much that I had the results with O2 that you guys are describing, but no such luck unfortunately

No one sent me fishing. And I'm not getting paid anything. This is a personal endeavor to take what I've learned in my own experiences and a few other friends to see if we can help others like us who have been completely unresponsive to traditional treatments, i.e. topamax, verapamil, depakote, lithium, O2 therapy, triptans, etc. etc. Just trying to help others who are suffering, while helping ourselves improve our own treatment, beyond the little help we get from our doctors.

I never tried the lidocaine spray.  When I was first diagnosed with CH 16 years ago my neurologist prescribed lidocaine but it was a paste (like you would apply topically.  Needless to say that was useless trying to get the gel up my nose.  Later another doctor prescribed lidocaine liquid (again not a spray) and like Batch I was totally contorted upside down attempting to get the drops in nose at the proper angle.  I honestly cannot say the lidocaine drops help to abort my headaches, because as we all know each HA will eventually go away.

I now use O2 with a high degree of success both in aborting and aborting quickly (assuming of course I hit it as soon as I feel the ha coming.

Didn't do a positive thing for the headache although the nasty taste did perhaps take my full attention away from the CH for a few seconds!

No actually I am a PC loyalist/builder, it's just a nickname. And thanks for the offer, but I've tried aLOT of different methods with the oxygen therapy to no avail. Appreciate the info.

I tried the lidocain drops down the affected nostril in the early 80's, very little relief, maybe a click or 2 down on the KIP scale.

I tried 4% drip last night when I felt burn coming on in my temple. Seemed to help some,but also had taken cafergot an hour earlier and again with the lidocaine. I did lie with my head back for 5 min. Didn't do that before. Seemed like my eye itself hurt more with the lidocaine, but helped temple some.

It did absolutely NOTHING for me.  I'm with the rest above.  Get some oxygen with a high flow-rate and you won't be sorry.

Like I said before, I wish the O2 therapy had worked for me, given it's availability, cost, and ease of use, but I HAVE NOT received results from it, O2 therapy attempted a variety of ways for more than 1.5 years, NO results
