I know I've been asking a lot of questions about topamax lately. I've also participated in some other threads about topamax.

Some of you who have been following my threads know my story a little bit. I seem to have some side effects.
Some definately from topamax, some seem to be shadows or leftovers from the last cycle.

Anyhow, I've been suggested to look into oxygen therapy as an abortive and verapamil as a preventive to substitute topamax.

However, verapamil started scaring me quite a bit after reading up on how it can cause hart rhythm trouble.
Still, I don't think topamax is something I want to continue with either.

Another thing that's come up now is the following and I would really appreciate it if you people could share your experiences and insight with me:

I've had wonderful teeth all my life, go on regular checkups and always hear I have remarkably strong and healthy teeth. I don't have any fillings.
A little while ago, one of my teeth just broke in half while chewing on a soft sandwich.

And the last couple of weeks my teeth have been feeling strange. There is this weird feeling in most of my teeth (they don't seem smooth on the outside anymore.. touching them with the tongue sometimes actually reminds me of licking a piece of chalk ...) , they have all gotten much more sensitive to cold/warm fluids, sweet and sour stuff and sometimes just chewing causes my teeth to react very sensitively.

I don't know what's going on anymore.
I've tried several teeth strengthening tooth-pastes, and tried anti-bacterial cleaningfluids... the condition remains.
When I go to the dentist, they say my teeth are strong, nothing's wrong.

I would love to go outside and yel some very ugly stuff and what not. lol
Damn I finally want to have a week where I can say I've just felt good all week, nothing going on at all.
I finally get one thing under control, something else pops up. Grrr, I wanna kick some b*tt, I'm not even in cycle right now :(

Well, unfortunately I can take a lot of comfort knowing I'm still a lot better of than many other amongst you.
Sorry for the rants, I know these things are nothing, it's just frustrating.

Anyway, if any of you have had some similar experiences, please let me know. I'm starting to wonder if I'm beginning to imagine things.

I have never taken Topomax so I can't help you from personal experience. I do not recall anyone posting on the board that they had a similar reaction to Topomax. I'm sure some topomax users will be along shortly.

I've broken 2 teeth from grinding them together during attacks. I get the impression that's not what happened to you.

As far as side effects to various drugs......everything from your deodorant, your hair spray to a bag of peanuts, has potentially fatal side effects. A few studies have been posted here that link Verapamil useage to heart issues. On the other hand it's been a front line prevent for ages because it works, and few suffer from the side effects.

As far as your asking too many questions....not possible! ;) And no matter which way you go with a prevent, get oxygen. My miracle abortive.

Anyone know how Topomax compares to Topiramate?

I was just reading your other post and was wondering the same thing! Looked it up and it's the same drug.

Edited to add....I read through the whole use and side effects on Wikepedia for Topomax. Sadly, I'll have to wait until one of the more learned people read it as I don't THINK it mentions teeth issues, but there were numerous parts where I wasn't sure what they were mentioning.

as for topiramate and topamax, they're the same drug, but topiramate is generic (if that's the correct word).

I started with topamax two and a half years ago, then switched to topiramate after advice from my GP because I can buy twice as much and still pay half the price so basically it costs 1/4th the price of topamax here (after refund from healthcare).

As for the chalk kind of feeling, I can live with that. the most annoying thing is that I am on edge every time I eat now. I feel kinda insecure after my tooth broke last time. Since my teeth feel a bit funny but mostly because they feel so sensitive when chewing I'm affraid I will brake another tooth. It's so weird because I can smack my teeth together real hard and not feel anything but when I start chewing something and little grains start touching my teeth, I get that feeling when your teeth react to something cold.

I'll bring this up with my new neuro in august anyways.
Maybe it's nothing and I'll just have to let it pass. Seems it's nothing common anyways.

I'm definately looking into oxygen therapy, but again I'll have to wait until after the meeting with my new neuro.

If things won't work out my GP will help me figure things out.

topamax is a strange drug - no doubt about it. 
At first when I read your post, I was concerned about a demineralization of your tooth enamel but if your dentist says you look ok then that may not be the issue.

Topamax is known to commonly cause parathesias or strange/abnormal sensations - it's also known to cause abnormal smell/abnormal taste.  Often the parathesias are numbness/tingling in the hands or feet, but perhaps in your case, it is hypersensitivity of the teeth...

sry I've been gone for a while.
We lost someone within the family so had other things on my mind.

Just to bring an update:
my teeth seem to have recovered a bit.
They seem somewhat less sensitive. I'm still using strengthening toothpaste so maybe in the end this helps.
I am getting a little more secure chewing but I'm still careful. I still have a somewhat rougher feeling on the outside of my teeth but that's ok.
I hope it will continue to improve, I have not decreased my topamax dose.

Eating sour candy is not so good though. But I can live with that :)
