Title: Question Concerning Correct Use of O2 Optimask Post by davidbudsd on Jun 14th, 2010 at 3:15pm
I have a prescription for 15lpm and the valve that goes up to that level at present. This seems efficient enough right now, but might consider purchasing a valve that allows more air. I have used the mask 2 times already since receiving on Saturday morning. I put the mask together correctly, but not sure I'm using it the right way. Should I allow the air to build up in the bag and then bring it into my lungs and then breathe out through my nose and then take more air in once the bag fills up again? I have seen on here where everyone recommends hyperventalating, but if I do that with this mask, the oxygen hasn't had enough time to build fully up into the bag. Anyone's thoughts would be welcome.
Thank you, David in San Diego |

make sure the valve on your o2 tank is open at least 2 rounds, if not fully. I had a problem w/ the bag on my mask not filling fast enough, and I didn't have the valve opened enough. just a thought.

I crank up the flow as high as I can, then I cover the O2 bag intake holes so the bag fills up rapidly. Hyperventilating isn't as easy for me as it seems to be for others. I had to learn to follow a pattern of rapid breathing to oxygenate my blood followed by deep full breaths to keep it that way. Using high flow and this pattern has made it possible to abort in 5-10 minutes. If it doesn't abort after 10, I stop and then start up again after having chugged an energy drink. And don't forget-shadows are clusters that want to grow up to be KIP bas*****ds. God bless!

I have a problem keeping up with the bag at 15LPM at times so that's a good thing. I get more O2 for the buck. Some on here suggest fully exhaling clearing your lungs and then taking a deep breath. This is where my success comes in. I cannot clear that bag so when i'm exhaling it's (the bag) filling up like a balloon, lol! Then I get to do it over and over again :)

I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this, I just was unsure if I was doing it correctly. The oxygen so far as been a great find for me and I have not had to use any Imitrex as long as I have the oxygen near at hand.
Thanks again, David |

That's been my experience too......as long as 02 is close..the trex doesn't come out. Makes you get real creative with transporting your 02! Those cute soccer mom chairs that get stored in the nylon bag.....just the right size to carry your E-Tank and regulator and no one is the wiser.
Glad to hear it's working for you....truly a beautifu thin aint it? ;) Joe ;) |
