Title: Unknown headache
Post by QnHeartMM on Jun 3rd, 2010 at 5:37pm
Has anyone ever experienced this? I know not CH, but people with other headache types

Crashing top of head pain - occurs approximately every 3-5 minutes, I would say from middle of "part" on head to back of the "part" area, sometimes spreading to the right side of the skull. Duration maybe 10-20 seconds each time. Holding head seems to help, or maybe duration is over by the time hands get in place to sort of press/squeeze.

Never any sign of migraine or serious headaches before. I'm recording them on the OUCH headache log, with intensity of 4-9 throughout the day. Been going on for 2 days now. Literally every 3-5 minutes.

Have an appt with MD tomorrow morning, but looking for ideas. Drinking water, eating normally, nothing new in my environment.

Christy, the only thing I've seen come close to that, is CPH (chronic paroxysmal hemicrania), but it's a daily occurance, so not sure if this is something that will continue for you or not.  I hope not!!

Let us know how the doctor visit goes!

In the words of Theodore Geisel:

This is not good.
It is not right.
My feet stick out of the bed all night.

Seriously, I hope you get a solid diagnosis and treatment plan. I don't know if you've ever had sinus problems, but sometimes the pain from infected sinuses can be referred to other parts of the head.

Good luck, sister.

Hiya love,

what do you mean by crashing?

could you describe it in terms of
zaps as in electric    OR
thuds as in a hammer  or
taps?

I ask because I have icepicks or idiopathic stabbing headache and those are really like hundreds to thousands a day of being zapped on top of the head.

I also have what Dr. sheftell calls an icepick variant. It's crazy....
On my way to the OUCH 2005 convention I developed a tapping on top of head in one location. It never hurt but it feels like someone is literally doing morse code lightly on my skull.
Ive had this now for 5 yrs and it was like Chinese water torture but never hurt. It will go away and then come back. Very strange. At the Convention we called them Kajingles and I honestly think the term will be making it into the IHS guide. haha

Hope you are well otherwise and get your tushie to dr.

Good luck

I guess I would say crashing  or maybe ice pick. not tapping. makes me suddenly cringe and tighten up til it's done. brief in duration, but all day yesterday was every 3-5 minutes.

I did take sudafed and a couple hours later it seemed to dull it some. does not seem to bother me when laying down so I got a good night sleep. Been up now about 1/2 hour and so far hasn't hit me.

Going to the doctor at 11;30 our time.

Sounds like Ice picks to me.
Hurts then gone.
Enough to make you cringe and lock up but not like a migraine or CH in that it's not incapacitating. Hurts like hell briefly but then poof gone.

Indomethacin got rid of them.

Good luck

Hi Christy,

I'm sorry you are in pain.   What you are describing sounds like my ice pick pains too.

I hope you find some answers and relief soon.

Hugs,

Jeannie

Eric and Jeannie - yes - stabs me, I cringe and lock up, then it's over. Joe was teasing me saying GET O2 but seriously by the time I would reach for it - it's over.

Indomethacin/indocin!!!

Kicked it's arse!

The only thing with indocin is if on it for a long time, it can be hard to come off of. Crazy rebound ha.

If icepicks then IT WILL be responsive to indocin

Sounds like ice picks to me too.  I haven't experienced them in years.  The name describes them well.

I hope the headaches end soon, Christy!

So as I described the headaches and showed the log of the last 2 days the PNP asked me if I had ever heard of Cluster Headaches. LOL, no never.

Anyways, told her I knew alot about them and felt what I was experiencing was different. Mentioned "ice pick" and the indomethacin. She gave me a Rx for that and also asked for blood work just to c heck all the chemical balances. My BP was good, best it's been in years over the last 3 days. Just had lunch and took my pill.

So Eric - once you start the Indo how long before they stop and when you stop taking it do they come back? She only gave me enough for 10 days, no refills.

I was on it for over a month but they stopped within days.

I had to come off of it when I was going on Lithium for the clusters.

They pretty much disappeared.
I will get them ever so often but they are not pervasive. They certainly do not affect my life what so ever.

Indomethacin is like the mother of all NSAID's it's like taking mass amounts of advil. I don't understand why the headaches are responsive to that and not others but it is. go figure.

You will know soon.
also you may have some tummy problems with it so just be aware

Hugs

Well just damn.  I don't check in here for a day or two and look who's gotten the contagion . . . . LOL. If Christy got contagious CH from Joe, then Joe got menopause from Christy!
:D

Hope the meds work for you, Christy.  Now I can wish YOU PF days!
