Title: Health Insurance
Post by jmc on Jun 2nd, 2010 at 4:45pm
Hello,
I recently was dropped from my insurance plan and was forced to get private insurance.  Long story short they put a rider on my coverage to exclude all headaches because they said I was a risk.

Of course I appealed with a letter from my neuro, prescription history, etc and thought that since this only happens every two years for approx a month they would reconsider (stupid I know).  The funny thing is since my deductible is 5K they would only be on the hook for O2 and imitrex scripts but I guess that's too much for them to bear.

Anyhow, this is my first experience with private insurance and I'm wondering if this is just how it's going to be or if there are insurance companies that are more flexible with pre-existing conditions such as clusters.

Assurant health is the company I applied to.  Anybody have any insight they're willing to share or a company to recommend?

Any help appreciated and thanks!  If there is another post that goes over this point me in that direction, but I didn't see anything at first glance.

Jerod

You could spend much of your life contacting one ins company after another! Contact an insurance agent who represents/works with multiple companies. Would speed up our search process.

But don't be surprised to find exclusions for both CH and any other significant items in your history. (A medical professional friend of mine keeps saying: "insurance is the only way to make money by saying 'NO!'")

May be a source of leads:

Thanks, that's kind of what I was figuring but pretty discouraging actually.  I did however reject Assurant's offer out of spite, made me feel a little better.  Back to the drawing board I guess.

Doesn't the "no pre-existing conditions" part of Obamacare start in a few months? (followed shortly thereafter by the paying for it part).
