Title: clusters while anesthetized?? Post by Bassplayer Jim on Jun 1st, 2010 at 9:15am
As I'm having a procedure next week for which I need to be anesthetized, I'm just curious as whether anyone's ever heard of anyone waking up while anesthetized (during a procedure) with a CH?
I know clusters wake people during "normal" sleep, so I'm a bit concerned about the possibility of having one during a procedure and horribly waking up, not only to feel the procedure, but with a CH, as well. BTW, I've already woken up once during an anesthetized procedure, but not from a CH, just normally. I was having my throat scoped 5 years ago, and while the doctor was taking a biopsy, I woke up and started choking. I only remember being conscious for about 15 seconds, but it was enough to have me anxious about next week's procedure. Particularly, as I'm in the midst of a CH cycle. Thanks. |

i ve done a surgerie with full anesthesia
for the upper back teeth,a suspicion back then for ch as there was something odd with the roots as the docs said that might have been the cause. the surgery went just fine as for the worry of yours if i were you just before the anesthiologist do his trick in the table tell him this -hope skroutz is not your favorite fairytale as a kid! :D pf wishes and wishes for good speed and well done recovery from the procedure |

I've had knee surgery under full anesthesia, and a colonoscopy under what they called "woo woo juice. That you won't remember anything stuff and DAMN it worked well! Both were during a cycle, neither brought on an attack. Given your history, you definitely want to have a talk with your anethesiologist before the procedure...and good luck! :)

I have never woken from anesthesia but I think it has triggered cycles for me. It has happened twice where I had about a week of mild CH following procedures requiring anesthesia.

Well, I'm already in a cycle. However, the last time I was under anesthesia and awoke (naturally, not with CH), was around the time I first started getting CH, six years ago. As a matter-of-fact, my throat scoping (during which I awoke) was to check for possible problems with my throat, as that's where the CH pain first manifested with me, before moving up the neck into the head (for which I eventually had an MRI -- which also showed nothing). |

I agree, I would have a talk with the anesthesiologist. They usually asked you if you'd had any problems before while being put under, and I'd definitely bring up what you mentioned and the CHs.

Thank you. That is my intention, should I not be sidetracked, of course. (Seems to be a lot a sidetracks these days.)

By being side tracked....you mean like walking into a room...looking around....and having no idea why you are there????

I had surgery a week ago and it went fine. However the dr tore the dura around the spinal cord twice by accident and it left me with one massive ha after I woke up. The ha lasted 23 days. I was fortunate that it went away with hydrocodone and extra strength tylanol. Then I started having short lasting migraines like 2 a day for a week. They went away with imitrex. Then my head rested peacefully. I am so glad I had talked to my dr about ha issues before surgery so I had imitrex and oxygen on hand if I needed it and no questions to answer or ask once the ha hit.
Please keep us informed of your procuedure and how you are feeling. |

Procedure went without a hitch, and no premature waking (thank the Lord). Went in around 9:20AM, and woke up while being wheeled back at 10AM. Thanks for asking. |

Glad to hear it went well. I didn't want to say anything but as I was being wheeled out of the OR for eye surgery I went into an attack. The nurse freaked when I went for my inhaler.
