Title: Question regarding contact lenses
Post by elguru on May 30th, 2010 at 1:34pm
Hello all,
So I posted here a few months ago thinking I was going to start another cycle...luckily it didn't happen. After 2.5 yrs, PF, this time there is no doubt that it has begun.  Prednisone worked well for me last time and I didnt need any painkillers.  Hopefully that will work fine this time.
My question was though if anyone wears contact lenses and whether or not they avoid wearing them during their cycle.  My pain is localized around my left eye, and if my contacts ever give me trouble, its always the left eye that bothers me.
Pretty sure there is no link between the two, but am just wondering if anyone has any experience regarding what's more comfortable for them.
Thanks!

You say this time around that you don't need painkillers. You're right. You don't. They won't help with cluster pain and could lead to other problems.
I don't wear contact lens but I do wear glasses. When my attacks come I have to take the glasses off. Just the little weight on my face seems to make things worse. Just a guess, but if I did use contacts they would have to go, at least the left one, during an attack. No, I don't think there is a link between contacts and clusters as to cause of the headaches.

Yes, I wear contacts and wondered the same thing. It seemed like shortly after taking them out at night, then I'd get an attack. So I went without them and wore glasses for 3 days. For me--MADE NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL. Now wearing my contacts. When it wants to hit-it hits. So far, I'm doing better on the Verapamil, very thankful.

I quit wearing contacts years before I was diagnosed.  reason being, is that when I'd get hit, I'd loose the contact due to the watery eye and pressing and rubbing my eye like crazy.

I don't think there is a connection between wearing them and getting hit.  Just a monetary loss in the replacements when they get lost.

Thanks everyone.  I didnt think there was a connection, was just wondering abt comfort levels...I was thinking that wearing contacts must be more irritating and uncomfortable when having an attack.

wear a pair of glasses during your cycle if you are episodic and come back to contacts when it ends
if it suits you better;)

My contact lenses stay on 24/7.

When in cycle, I do not want anything touching my nose or my face- except a cold rag.

Oh and hello all..it's been awhile :)

I almost always have one yearly.

MAYBE i'm skipping a season? [smiley=huh.gif]

Welcome back, Kimmie.  And here's hoping you're going to skip one this year.   :)

Best,

George

from hands?
i don't know much of lences as i wear glasses all the time.It gives the wrong  impression i am a sophisticated person and this makes me laugh my butt every morning i wash my face and then wear them in front of the mirror.
it starts my day with a smile :D

welcome back and pf wishes

Mine oftentimes bother me, even with the special kind that you can wear for 30 days straight. I just switch back to glasses for a few days.

Yes, the contact in my affected side does bother me during a cycle.  I have noticed that, during my worst weeks, when I take it out of that eye, it is not uncommon it will immediately trigger the HA.  However, at that point in my cycle, there are many things that trigger it.  If I don't wear the contacts, it certainly doesn't prevent it.  So, yes, the contacts bother me and can trigger a headache upon removal for me.  But it is a headache I probably would have had anyway...just later.

Yes. My contact prescription used to be a trigger for me. I talked to my optometrist about it.

She said that the standard procedure is to make one lens at prescription strength for longer distances (driving) and the other weaker for reading.

I had her make the script without that adjustment and it helped (me). I have to use reading glasses to read up close. Either that or it caused my arms to shrink.

Your mileage may vary.
