Title: Sibelium???
Post by Headie :( on May 18th, 2010 at 8:45am
All,

I was recently diagnosed with Cluster Headsaches and since that first day have been taking Sibelium. I have found that I do not suffer at all from severe pain in my head  now but do have a constant dull headache. Does anyone get this? I have been on the tablet about 2 months now and have also notice serious weight gain. This is very upsetting but I suppose better than alternative. I looked up the drug and it says it is a calcium blocker? it also states the main side affect as weight gain.

Is anyone else taking this? It is also called Flunarizine??

Let me know and thank you! :)

I haven't seen that one yet but calcium channel blockers, most popular and common around here being Verapamil, are a well known prevent for CH. If it has reduced your attacks down to annoying shadows, then it's doing a great job as a prevent.

Do you ever have break through attacks? Do you have anything ready for those? Imitrex, oxygen etc.?

I do a couple of things for those annoying shadows. I use energy drinks, any containing the combo of caffeine and taurine, my fav is sugar free Red Bull. Downing one of those will often chase the shadows away. Check with your doc because there can be an issue with using those in combo with Verapamil....not sure if yours is in the same class or not.

There is a nasal spray called 4Way Nasal Spray. Using that on the nostril same as the attack side brings many relief. Occasionally I'll resort to Excederin Migrain but don't make that a habit as OTC's do a lot of hurt in the long run.

Welcome to the board, when you get a chance expound a bit on what else you're using. We're a nosey bunch around here! Glad you're finding relief.

A scan of PubMed (National Library of Medicine) popped up 6 or so items, all dating between 1986 and 2001.

That suggests this it was a one-shot, "maybe", med which did not work for Cluster.
