Title: DMSO

Just had someone tell me about this stuff. Anyone heard of it or tried it? Suppose to be some kind of new non-steroid anti-inflammatory and pain killer.

Yep.  Many years ago I bought some for my daughter's Scoliosis on the advice of a friend.  It's intended use is for horses as a linament.  (yes, I asked my Doctor about it first)   When I applied it to her back she ran around the house crying because it burned..but her back didn't hurt for over a week and after that she'd beg me to put it on her because of the relief she got.

I "googled" it recently and it looks like they have it, (watered down, I'm sure) for humans on-line.  You may want to know that the aroma isn't too pleasant and if smells trigger you, it probably isn't a smart move to use it.  Smells like Ben-Gay and because it is absorbed into the skin it gives you a taste of garlic for some odd reason.

A friend of mine used to apply it to his knees some 30 years ago. He was a long-distance runner and said it really helped cut down on the swelling.

Whenever he used it I'd meet him outside as he stunk. Or stank.

DMSO as dimethyl sulfoxide? I used it as solvent in chem lab. But as CH-painkiller?  :-/

Sorry I don't have any sourcing for this other than memory, but if I recall correctly over use can cause kidney issues.  I remember a friend using it for arthritus a number of years ago and having to quit due to kidney failure.  To be totally up front about it I think she about bathed in it, so it was probably more over use than anything.
