I used to really love that cold. Key word is "used" to.......
Now my preference is to visit cold climates when I get the snow itch - then head home when it gets old. Enjoy your winter ;) Marc (The wuss) |
Title: Re: Here it comes Post by Linda_Howell on Oct 27th, 2009 at 9:55pm So Bbzz? Does the snow, ice and cold, beat out walking a tightrope on the Golden Gate? Inquiring minds and all that. ;) |

They both have their inherent advantages and disadvantages. Short answer:Yes, my heart and family are in Montany. I loved it when I was at the Golden Gate, however I did feel displaced and it's far more serene here. Thanks for asking Linda. the bb |

For those of you who don't know...John BBz used to walk the tight-rope over the Golden gate bridge in San Fransisco checking out all the "welds" I believe.
There is a picture of him somewhere doing just that. For those of us( o.k. ME.. who have a problem with heights) it is an awesomne sight to see him up there..wondering when the next hit will come and if he could get off of there in time. John, you amaze me. You also make me laugh. You and Joan are two of my best friends. LOL anyone have that pic? |

This morning's short pre-dawn excursion had its onset paused to reach for the nifty ice-scraper needed to rake across the first frosted windshield. At the first sunrise, through the picture window shears swooped the shadows of about a dozen sparrows around the house, some hovering with rapid flapping to look and inspect every nook and cranny for any small opening around the porch roof and house underhang for this winter's protection site. I guess they'd like to draw from any excess heat emanating. Then I thought, hey, aren't they called house sparrows?
Well, for such a small-bodied bird to have decided by representative assembly to stay this state through the winter, their forethought of preparation seems to be initiated by a cold night's disturbing chill. They do look more fluffy-feathered though. Good luck to them on their house-hunting. The dashing squirrels in the last month made use of their time with sniffing territorial terra firma for burying and gathering from the Home Depot of autumn's fallen building material. They seem settled, just some final touch-up scavenging. I wondered that my brain seems to fall somewhere in between. No, not a month's preparation for winter, but I did have an ice-scraper in the car ready. I'm not that far from needing fluffy feathers. ::) |

Title: Re: Here it comes Post by Linda_Howell on Nov 3rd, 2009 at 5:13pm
Yep, Karla..I figured there would be some who didn't believe me. That's why I wanted to know if anyone saved the pic.
Your California friends miss you too and I miss THEM. Now all I have is Jimi and Ruth. ;) I have been assured that my first winter in Kentucky will not have blizzards or more than a few inches of snow off and on. I bought some winter boots just in case. I don't know how you folks in the cold climates wear these things though. My feet are used to sandals. :-/ |

Okay I know I'm evil but...
I am laughing my socks off here picturing Linda in a snow drift. Or actually, NOT picturing her! Should we be thinking about getting her a radio tag so we can find her? Or one of those cute little hats with an extendable flagpole and a brightly coloured pennant so Jimi knows where to dig? We need a contingency plan! |
Title: Re: Here it comes Post by Linda_Howell on Nov 4th, 2009 at 12:43pm
O.K. So what you're all saying here is that I probably should go out and buy a warm jacket to go with the boots. Right?

Title: Re: Here it comes Post by catlind on Nov 5th, 2009 at 8:01am
No no no no, you have it all wrong. After 4 years in upstate NY where 5 ft in a single snow fall was common, what Linda REALLY needs to ALWAYS, AT ALL TIMES, have keys or a strong piece of metal in her pockets so we can rent a metal detector to find her.
That's what we had to do when Clark lost the keys through the snowblower.....don't ask. So Linda, always have metal and we will always find you :) Cat eta: We own a metal detector and I would be happy to come up any time at all to help locate you :) |

Having spent most of the first 17 years of my life living in and around Colorado Springs, I have spent my share of time in the snow and cold. I left in Aug of 64 for Marine Corp boot camp at San Diego ( Hot - No Snow ), on to Memphis and then Cherry Point, NC ( A little cooler in the winter but still not much snow ), and then to South Viet Nam ( HOT - NO SNOW ). In December of 67 I came back to the US on 30 days leave bofore returning to Nam for a voluntary 6 month extention ( Yup, I in advertantly volunteered to participate in the Tet Offensive!! Actually not one of my brighter decisions. LOL ). Anyway, my folks had moved to Fort Worth, Texas so I split my leave between Colo ( COLD - SNOW ) and Tex ( my brother and I played football in shorts, t shirts, and barefoot on Jan 1, 1968 ).
When I got discharged in June of 68 I flew to Colo to see all my friends for a few days and then came to Texas to see my folks and have been here ever since. I guess I've even come to see myself as a Texan and now cling firmly to the belief that " If God had wanted Texan's to ski he would have made bullshit white". Dallas Denny |

I am laughing myself hoarse here! I love it and as an adopted West Texan you can guarantee I will be using that one at the first opportunity I get! - still giggling! Think I might have to ring my friend in Amarillo tonight just to tell her! Thanks for a really good laugh! |
