Title: Imitrex refills
Post by Lynn W on Sep 25th, 2009 at 4:27pm
I just got a call from my pharmacy telling me that the maker of imitrex has decided to limit the number of refills that he can order to 1, he said he won't know until tomorrow if it's per day or per week, has anyone else heard of this?

Are these refills the (9) pills or (2) 6mg injections?

I have not heard of this and I, for one, get plenty of Imitrex in all forms.  I usually have it prescribed to me in bundles (3 boxes of nasal spray for one copay, etc.)

So.. hopefully this won't be changing!  Also, I get generic, not brand name.

Good luck - Joshua

The injections. I've never had a problem in the past.

My bet it is the Ins. co. that is limiting you, not the maker of the drug.

My Ins. co. limits how many I can get per mo. as well.

I was refilling my trex injections once a week in this past cycle.  No questions asked.  My old neuro had 11 refills on this script which expires on 10/6/09.  I'm looking to stock up for future cycles.  It's good to have as a back-up.  By next cycle, i'll have O2.  I'm quite fortunate that this cycle was only 13 days long  and I owe rc seeds and quitting smoking to the shortest cycle I have had to date.  Not one CH exceeded a K7 either.

In a lot of our experience, it is the Insurance Co. that limits refills, not the Pharmacy Co.s

Had same experience with Zomig NS...it was the insurance co...took several appeals and a strongly worded letter from neuro (called letter of medical necessity I think) to get the 18 doses/mo I needed. The manufacturers have recommended dosage limits but I've never heard of them limiting prescriptions.

And bless her heart...the neuro told me...WITHOUT a wink or a nudge..."be sure and stockpile when out of cycle"

Best,

Jon

I just got off the phone with the pharmacy, wanted to make sure it wasn't my insurance co. I was told there's no problem with my insurance co. it's the maker of imitrex that has limited the pharmacy to only being able to order 1 refill a day.

I asked if it was one refill/day per trex user and they said no, one per day for the pharmacy. They are going to keep ordering one every day to have a supply on hand for me.

I've never heard of this before. I'd be looking for a new pharmacy.

Thank you for posting that link Linda!!

I submitted my info. as well.  I have contacted my ins. co. before regarding this and the response I got was "We have to follow the FDA guidelines regarding that drug."  Which limits me to 4 shots per mo. period, even though I have told them I can go through that in a week and that I suffer from CH!

We'll see if anything comes of my information being submitted and I'll keep you posted.
