Title: Question about Verapamil
Post by curlywatts on Jul 7th, 2009 at 7:36pm
I have had CH for 15-20 years.
In the past my cluster cycle has been 2 year gap and then ch for 40 to 50 days. I use sumatriptan or frovatriptan to get me through.
This time however they went past the 2 month mark and I have been taking Verapamil 120g twice a day for the last month.
The ch have gone but I still have a general headache most days and feel washed out.
My question is could my ch have gone and is it the verapamil that's giving me the normal headache.
I suppose the only way to find out is to cease the verap.
Anybody with similar experience?

headache is a possible side effect of Verapamil.  Did your doc suggest that you stay on it past your cluster cycles?  I would ask 'em if it were time to taper off...

Yes, for some reason he suggested I stay on it for 6 months but I didn't start the verap till I was past the normal length of my usual cycle so I am in new territory.
I guess the only way to know for sure is stop the verap and see if they come back.

When I first started taking Calan (verapamil), it did wonders for my CH, but replaced it with a constant low-grade "hat band" tension type headache. That went away with subsequent regimens.

I wouldn't just stop the verap without checking with the prescribing doc...
