Title: Savella
Post by Tara Ann on Jun 30th, 2009 at 9:05am
A while back on the general board in a hello post I mentioned a new preventative med I have been put on called Savella.  It's new on the market as far as I can tell and it's aimed at Fibrimyagial patients.  This med was added on top of the Topamax I'm already on.

I wanted to give an update on the Savella.  So far Definately zero change in the cluster department.  But it seems to have helped my Fibro so atleast that's a plus.  I take 50 mg, 25 in the am and 25 at bed.  The only side affect is a slight tiredness that will go away if I stay active, not at all near sedative like so that sided affect is not bothersome.  And the other side affect I noticed is loss of appetite.  Topa does that to me also.  Also some insomnia but I have that problem already so that my just be me, so I don't know if I can really blame the med.....   So I have to remind myself to eat (you'd think I'd be thinner lol!)

The neuro that prescribed it to me didn't know his a**hole from his head and I just fired him and my very nice family doc is looking to get me into a specialist in Concord (one of the closest cities to me, it not it will be in Winsten-Salem which will be much longer of a treck)  It won't be the easy but it will be definately worth ESP being in high cycle right now.

I just wanted to fill you all in on the Savella situation in case someone was wondering or wanted to give it a try.  Cause what doesn't work for one, very well may work for another.

Pf hugs and wishes to all!

Occasionally, someone reports some benefit from an SSRI drug, but they are not highly effective for the group. Savella is a SNRI, serotonin & norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor - not sure if the extra N makes a difference, maybe.

From my understanding his hopes the sNri vs ssri was a valid shot to take.  But like I said this doc really is an ass, that was his only real try at helping me. ::)
