Jim,
You are most certainly on the right path. You'll need a regulator that fits a CGA 540 valve and supports a flow rate up to 25 lpm. The Optimask is a good choice. You can find regulators on ebay or medical supply houses on the Web. I believe you will find that this is going to be one the most worthwhile purchases you ever made. At this point O2 is the ONLY treatment I use for CH and it's working out fine. It's great to be off the pharmaceuticals. Mark |

Please, if possible recommend a source or two, even a specific part number. I've visited several regulator sites and the variety of products is mind numbing.

Okay, I've ordered the upscale Optimask. I'm ready to head up to Tractor Supply and purchase either the 20 or 40 CF Welder's O2 tank.
Now, I sense that all I need is a specific recommendation as to where to get the correct regulator and which one to get. Thanks. |

As long as you get the 25lpm 540 Nut style, you should be fine - It is the CESS-5688-00 on the page you indicated. This is a pretty good price. I have been looking for a reg for my O2 tank at home that goes to 25lpm on ebay, etc. and have looked on medical sites too. This is around (or a bit lower) than the lowest price I've seen!
Good luck Jim!! ;) O2 works great!! Docs can be such jerks set in their ways sometimes... Val |
Title: Maximum "be prepared" mode Post by Jim Tew on May 16th, 2009 at 1:54pm
Okay, so I'm in maximum "be prepared" mode. I've ordered the Regulator, Optimask and picked up a #2 canister of Welders Oxygen (40 CF, $21 to refill).
I'm at or close to the end of my spring cycle, so even though it will take a few days for everything to get here, I'll be prepared for the next cycle. If I never have another CH and never need to use this stuff it will still be money well spent and I still have a couple of cans of recreational O2 left. Then I could always take up recreational welding. I'll keep the nasal Lidocane around for emergencies but I am going to pass on the Prednisone. Perhaps my nine year old Chinook can use the steroid if her seasonal allergies flare up---it was pretty cheap. I'm still struggling with the PREVENT piece and leaning toward the "mix" someone else suggested: Kudzu - 1000 mg, 2x per day (morning & night) Magnesium - 250 mg, 2x per day (morning & night) St. John's Wort - 300 mg, 2x per day (morning & night) Skullcap - 425 mg at bedtime Melatonin - 10 mg at bedtime It's hard to judge what is working since I'm on the "down slope" but I have a sense that the Kudzu and Melatonin have limited my CHs. I feel like a medieval alchemist here! |
