Title: MIDRIN???
Post by Kimmie on Mar 9th, 2009 at 3:54pm
Since i moved to TX, my GP is setting up an app. to see a neuro here.

In the meantime, she gave me a script for midrin and butalt for this "go round"

I kept tellin her my HA's seem to be fizzling (knock on wood) :-X

I also kept telling her..."HEY DAMNIT!...my left ear is popping, hurting, and ringing. What the heck caused that??"...no reply

Any of you familiar with these scripts and also throw me a bone on what i can do to get my danged ear to drain.

Stop taking meds which have no useful purpose for CH.

Many OTC pain meds will cause ringing in the ear when used to excess and/or in sensitive bods.

I haven't taken any yet.

I took it to Walgreens to get it filled.

Haven't tried any of it.

So what's going on with my cluster side ear?? :question

Kimmie,

Bob is spot on...  Midrin (Acetaminophen, Isometheptene and Dichloralphenazone) = Useless when used to treat cluster headaches.

Good to see your doc is working a consult with a neurologist for you... Are you going to ask for oxygen therapy?

I don't know about the pain and popping...  but if you stop taking the OTC meds and the ringing continues... you may have joined the tinnitus club...  see START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

Take Care,

V/R, Batch

I was given Midrin in the early 80's, sadly it did nothing for my CH. Wishing you better luck with the neuro. Remmeber to do your own research, and without being a pushy broad!!! ;D......let him know you know something of what you speak and would love the opportunity to form a partnership with him/her to figure out a battle plan for your CH.

When i go to the neuro here in FTW, TX. Pete was sooo kind to give me a peice of paper about O2 that I'm taking with me.

I'm going to demand the 25lpm instead of the 15.

I also want a demand valve! No iffs, ands, or butts.

I will NOT leave until I get what i need.

Question is: I wonder when the GP will call to tell me when my neuro appt. will be.

Midrin helped me at first, for the first week and a half I was on it.

Dichloralphenazone is a tranquilizer, Isomethapene is a vasoconstrictor. So it did help some. Then it stopped helping me.

When my GP's office told me to up it to 2 pills at a time...it caused me to have severe trouble breathing, and I wound up at the hospital with the beast being completely pissed.

Your GP SHOULD be able to prescribe you the oxygen, themselves. I highly suggest asking them about it, or maybe even printing the information on it and taking it to them.
