Post by jay on Mar 9th, 2009 at 10:14am
Hi there,

First of all I know go to a Doc but after the clowns I have been seeing over the last 2 years beleive me I have had enough of them.

Been on Verapmail for a while and been getting pain in my vaines in my left arm its like mini razor blades inside the skin, even wearing a watch is now not easy.

I also had a steriod nerve block (in the back of the head) a month ago which will amazing 4 weeks pain free untill a few days ago due to go back in the next week or so for another

Just wonered if anybody else had e3xperianced any simular side effects.

Thanks

I had that odd painful feeling in my knees last time I started verapamil, but it only lasted a week or so, and fortunately went away. I believe it was do to holding water/swelling of the knees.

I had several nerve blocks, which helped with ch somewhat and with occipital neuralgia a lot.  I was told I could only have 3 in the same spot, and my neurologist tried (20 small injections of) botox next, and it has been very helpful.  Still get the big hits but the small ones are just shadows.

Good luck.

Charlotte

I can't comment on the sensation in one arm much because I don't know if nerve blocks can affect or how much verap you're using, everyone can be different in how it's tolerated.

But you've been taking it awhile, had a nerve block then also, and now the hits are back.  It wouldn't appear the verapamil has been much effective.  Could it be tapered down by your doctor to see if the sensation changes?

Been on the verapmil for about 6 months now on a dosage 0f 720 mg. The problem the doctors have is that I may also have another primary headache condition as well as the CH and my nuro thinks this is auto amun related.

I have had such bad experiances with our health system that I have given up on all doc apart from my nuro who I have only just started seeing in the last 3 months. Sure a lot of you have felt the same.

Sorry just relised I am going on but had very hard week with the CH so losing it now lol

Thanks

Hi Jay. I am on Verap. now into my 5th month and no side effects like you described, but maybe check with your doc on this.

My side effects were swelling of my calves and my short term memory is not as good as it was, but also it kept the beast at bay for the most part, so not a bad trade off.

Thanks for the clarification Jay.

I've never experienced the razor symptom you describe.  The closest I've come is leg cramps.  Nothing at all in the arms.

I is not uncommon for folks to suffer from multiple headaches disorders.  Sounds like you have a good Neuro in your corner.  That's worth it's weight in gold.

As for other Doctors, they mostly don't get it.  But that's ok so long as they don't get in your Neuro's way.

Good luck Jay and don't worry about venting here.  That's what this board is all about.
