Title: O2 Regulator Question??
Post by DJ on Mar 8th, 2009 at 8:55pm
I have a question for those of you that currently use oxygen as an abortive therapy.

I'm curious as to what the operating range is on your O2 flow regulators.  5-15 LPM?  15-30 LPM?  30 LPM or more?  Whatcha got?

Thanks in advance for the info!

DJ

0.5 to 15 lpm for me right now.

Believe it or not, when I asked the respiratory therapist from my new O2 vendor if they would give me a regulator that goes to 25 lpm, he swore that there is no such thing.  <sigh>

I'm going to send him some links to web pages where these non-existent gadgets are for sale online. Meanwhile, I guess I'm going to buy one for myself.

Oh, and thanks DJ, for the prompt shipping of my O2ptimask.  Wicked good mask!

For my E tank .5-25 LPM, M tank 1-60 LPM with a DISS fitting. I don't have the Demand valve yet.

I use welders 02 and the regulator can go up as high as I need it to.  The bar was turned up high by accident once and it blew the hose off.  If that hadn't happened, the bag would have popped.

Love my 02! :)

Demand Valve regulator, I beleve it goes up to 40 liters per minute but it is not stated anywhere with the paperwork.

0-60 liters/minute (... 25 LPM, 40 LPM, 60 LPM) Plus DISS and Demand Valve.  (I use both Demand Valve and the O2PTIMASK™ at the top flow rate settings depending on study/research requirements.)

Mine goes up to 15lpm.

They are .5 to 25 lpm.

I'm about to drill one out to get it higher.

Mine is 0.5 -25 LPM, but I only use the 15 and 25 LPM settings.

0.5 to 25lpm.  Mine jumps from 15-25 which I really dislike.  Would love to have a stop in between at 20lpm.

I can still empty the bag at 25lpm when the pain is high so I'm thinking about getting a 60lpm regulator for my m-tank.

For those of us not in the know, what is a DISS port?

Chuck, please correct me if I am wrong, but the DISS is a fitting on the regulator that allows you to have the option of setting up the Demand Value System.

I believe it stands for Diameter Indexing Saftey System. Along with the standard barb (where you usually hook up your 02 hose to the tank) some regulators have one or more of these ports.

Demand valves must be screwed in the regualtor body at this port. With demand valves you have a constant flow every time you breath in, and the flow shuts off as soon as you stop breathing in. Very similar to a scuba divers mouth piece. Look at the Oxygen info on the left and  3/4 from the bottom, a regulator with Diss port is shown.

Gary's got .5-25 LPM for the E tank, and now that we're in the RV he's got the M60 tanks instead of the M tanks, but the new 02 company got him set up with 1-60 LPM with a DISS fitting.  No demand valve yet.  Using o2ptimask.

I bow to the wisdom of the lady with the nice bewbies and ass with the infinite wisdom and smarts ...

Yes, it is a fitting for the demand valve ...

Here is a picture of one:

It is the fitting that you see just under the gage.  Notice that this regulator also has the nipple fitting for the O2PTIMASKTM (notice the blatant product plug) (available at your friendly CH.com store) (QUICK shipping, reasonable pricing) (Secure, quick, and easy)  (available 24/7/365).

The DISS fitting is NOT controlled by the LPM selector.  The nipple fitting is, but the DISS is a pressure thing, regardless of what the selector is set at.

Does that answer your question, fully, Bill?

Chuck

(BTW, before you ask if I get paid for my blatant CH.com store plugs, YES, I do!  I get paid THREE times what the rest of you get paid for plugging the store!  So THERE!!! [smiley=tongue.gif])

Good on you Chuck!  Great description of the DISS check valve fitting and its use with a demand valve...

My flow rate is continuously adjustable from 0 to I-don't-know-how-high. There is a flow rate gauge (of the ball in conical tube type) that reads 0 to 10 liters/minute, but it's probably slow by a factor of 2. I use a reading between 6 and 8, but the actual flow rate is more like twice the reading.

I have a Demand Valve system. When the guy set up my tank he set it so it only goes to 1- 15 LPM. Anyone know how to "unlock" the sucker??

Deb, I take it you have a DISS fitting on your regulator for the demand valve system?  As Chuck stated earlier, the DISS fitting is independant of the LPM setting.

I have one that steps up 15-18-20-25. Only one I've found at a good price that has that feature.

Mind if I ask where you found it? How much did you pay?

I want to get one that'll go up to 25lpm, can't really afford it at this point, but I'd like to know where to shop for when I can. I don't wanna waste oxygen if I can only inhale a certain amount...

Ebay......40 bucks if I remember correctly. The ones that go from 15-25 I've bought for $25. Just keep watching ebay.  ;)

I use an integrated valve of 1-15lt./min. with a Linde O2PTIMASK™
To achieve a higher flow I have rigged 2 tanks with a T connection
with this constellation I achieve just about 23lt./min. (see pic. below)

Michael,

Great minds think alike ;)  I did the same thing with mine for awhile (not integrated), but I really like having one regulator for my monster "T" tank (9350 liters) in my garage and the other for my smaller tanks in the car.

No more getting caught away from home without a tank..........

Flotec RR510-300T1 which is equal to 0-60 LPM.

It has a DISS as well, but haven't thrown down on the demand valve setup yet.

I start with the 40LPM and decrease from there after the pain is gone.

I use 2 regulators from 2 tanks into the same reservoir bag.  Both are 0 to 15 litres.  +
I dont think I could make it with just 15lpm.
