Title: Nightime Attacks!
Post by JimH333 on Mar 2nd, 2009 at 6:55pm
Hello my CH friends,
I read a few years ago about remedies to stop the attacks while sleeping. One was to peel an apple and let it brown before eating?
I would greatly appreciate any tips you all may have.
My routine has been wakening to the pain, breathing O2, then back to sleep until the next one (2-5 per night! Yikes!)
I haven't had a full night sleep for a month and need energy for my kids!

God bless,
Jim

Can't comment on the browning apple, but have you tried melatonin?

Most of us for whom it is effective use 6-12 mg. (I normally take 9 mg. ) 1/2 hour or more before bedtime.

For me, at least, (according to my H/A journal) it appears to reduce the number of nighttime attacks that I get, overall, during a cycle.  It's by no means a magic bullet, but I consider it a valuable weapon in my arsenal.

Best wishes,

George

Some folks find melatonin, 6mg at bedtime, is helpful. May have to adjust the dose with expeience.

Another old timer is ergotamine, 2mg SL tab; one about one-hour before bed. An Rx item.

Anywhere from 6-24 mg of melatonin.

My magic number was 9mg and it gave me my nights back for a yr which left me better able to cope during the day

I often get 4 hits a night, too.  When I am desperate for a good night's sleep, I take an Amerge 2.5 mg tablet just before bed.  Can't take it within 24 hours of Imitrex, but O2 for abortive therapy that day isn't a problem.

It can also give me 1 pain-free shift at work on those days where I just can't afford to be incapacitated. Here's to PFDAN...

I'm dealing with the 3 or 4 hits per night thing at the moment. I was going along just fine with about six hours sleep per night, when the beast changed his calling hours.
I know what you mean, I increased my Melatonin before bed from 12mg to 15mg. Seems to have helped a bit, and I am going to get some Kudzu supplements and give that a go.
If I've learned anything in all the years of fighting the beast is always expect the unexpected. Each cycle has been somewhat different then the last, it's what makes fighting this crap so difficult. Freddy Kruger runs some strange hours and is very creative in his attack.

Hi Guys,
I just got some 3MG Melatonin tonight and plan to take some. When some of you say take 9-12MG or more, I assume 3-4 of the 3MG pills, right? (I'm kinda new at this and the directions on the bottle say take Qty1, 30 minutes before bed)

Can't wait to see if these babies work!

Don't give up if it doesn't work the first night -- I stopped and started three times before I gave it a fair shot and then it WORKED after a couple of weeks (and the right dose). I take 12-15mg a night and don't usually have a night hit. (I'm chronic).

Hopefully this will give you some rest at night to get you thru the days.

Melatonin usually takes a few days to help with sleep patterns. I'd take 2 of the threemg melatonin and up it from there if need be. Give it a couple days.
