Title: One Pupil Smaller Than the Other?
Post by purpleydog on Feb 17th, 2009 at 6:51am
I just started another high cycle, and this time, not only has the CH switched sides on me, but in addition to my right eye being totally bloodshot, the pupil in the right eye is very small. Almost a pinpoint.

The left side pupil is normal sized. It makes my vision seem a bit dark on the right, due to the pupil being so small. Of course, my eye is tearing, and my nose is running on that side too.

I think this high cycle has been triggered by some infection, my right tonsil is swollen, and has holes in it (not to be too gross here). I had a temp of 100 yesterday, but right now, I don't. It's almost like I have strep throat, but my throat isn't sore, it's just the tonsil. And I'm having body aches.

Has anyone had this happen to them?  Weird thing to be happening.

That doesn't sound good.

I've had pupils of unequal size during a hit, and the runny nose and eye of course, but not the other stuff.

Been to see the doc yet?  Just speculating, but I suspect that there may be some antibiotics in your immediate future.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Best wishes,

George

I've had something similar this year. I had flu in December. Left with what I thought was a sinus and chest infection. Took a decongestant and it triggered a cycle.

In this cycle I had a a very sore one sided throat (I dont have tonsils) in the mornings. I couldn't swallow. I was very stuffed up. I had strong shadows on the left side and sometimes central through the bridge of my nose. The last 7 or 8 years has been right sided cycles and shadows (used to be left). I think O2 also contributed towards the dry throat. I used sips of cold water every 2 or 3 minutes when using O2 which helped a bit.

I had a short 5 day course of prednisilone and it fixed the throat and blocked upness.

Didn't notice if one eye had a smaller pupil.

It was an uncomfortable feeling alongside the CH but the steroid gave me some much needed sleep and it was great to lose the sore throat.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,

Ellick.

Chris:

A constricted pupil is a common sign of cluster headaches.

While the pupil thing seems like a trait shared with others, I'd go get the throat checked.  Four of us in my house are on antibiotics for Strep Throat.

I agree with Dennis.  My son often gets Strep with no sore throat.

Feel better soon!

Karl- your pupil turns inward!?!  Damn!  I'd have that checked out!  :o hehe...

Gross tonsil stuff below this line!

I have notoriously deviant tonsils, the lil' b@stards, and they have "holes" called crypts (here's the gross part) from which I now and then express little cottage-cheesy bits of crap... there's actually a name for this: chronic cryptic tonsillitis, and also tonsillolithiasis (which is when the stuff calcifies into hard little rocks.)  They can cause soreness in the tonsil area, and are more common among people who have recurring bouts of tonsillitis.

Low-power microscope magnification of a cross-section through one of the tonsillar crypts (running diagonally) as it opens onto the surface of the throat (at the top). (From Gray's Anatomy)

But all tonsils have these crypts, and they are actually quite deep (as you can see in the illustration) though not usually noticeable unless you are poking around back there.   CCT and tonsillolithiasis are not dangerous, merely annoying;however, some docs may see it as a sign that you need your tonsils out, especially if they are chronically swollen and you have recurring bouts of strep or tonsillitis or trouble breathing.
There, that's my science lecture for the day! Enjoy!  :D

I had the small pupil a few weeks ago, and I switch sides but that was on my main side, right.  It occurred during the end of a high cycle. Can't remember what else was going on.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hey Paige! You are right, and that's very interesting. I did call the doc, I still have a temp, and both tonsils have these crypts, they go very deep, almost look like holes, along with the little white nodes. It's strep. I got some antibiotics, got right on them. Had a helluva hit this morning, and just shadows the rest of the day (so far). I've had strep many many times, makes my tonsils look like swiss cheese.

Ray, I've heard of other people having the pupil constriction, but it's been awhile. I don't recall it happening to me in the past. When I got home, they were back to normal.

Funny how people at work will comment on my red eye. I just came off a high cycle on the other side, I explained why to one guy, about the CH, and he listened, and found it interesting. Everyone says... Your eye is red. Yes, I know. It's really red. Yes, I know, it just does that. I don't explain to anyone why, chalk it up to an allergy.

Thanks everyone. I hope to feel better tomorrow. :)  Off to bed now.   [smiley=snore.gif]

I had so many infections as a kid, they removed my tonsils when I was either 5, or 6.

Anyways, my doctor had told me I could keep my tonsils. So, I go to the pathology lab to pick them up.

...Now, you have to understand, I generally was dressed up like a little china doll. Big bow in my hair, a dress with a petticoat, all of that...

So, I inform them I am there for my tonsils. They tell me I really don't want them.

I tell them I want my tonsils back. They continue to try to explain how much I REALLY do not want them back, as they are horrible to look at.

I tell them my doctor told me I could keep my tonsils after the surgery, and I want them. They hand them over.

They were SO GROSS. And I was SO PROUD of them.

My Mom took them over to my Granny's apartment, and put them in a cupboard.

When Granny moved to manage another apartment complex, she left them behind.

.... I'm really not sure what happened to them when WE moved... but I can imagine someone finding them, scarred, huge, and disgusting and wondering what the FUCK they were doing there...

 :D

Hope the strep gets better, to all of you suffering from it!
