Title: Hot Flashes?
Post by Melissa on Feb 2nd, 2009 at 3:46pm
Anyone else get these with their cycles, or is it just something I'm experiencing??

When Joe has CH cycles he has a very narrow temperature threshhold. I'm not sure exactly what, but he gets very cold and very hot easily.

Phil is warm blooded to begin with, but right before he gets hit and right after a hit he gets very sweaty.

Oh I see how it is now! And here I thought it was CH! But Bill, since he had hot flashes before I did, does that make MINE the sympathetic ones?  [smiley=yikes.gif]

Sometimes I get REALLY hot when I'm having an attack, like I've just ran a mile on a sunny day of 105 deg. Other times (like today) I feel like I'm going to freeze to death.

Hi Mel,

Are you talking about "hot flashes" at random--not associated with an attack--or during an attack?

Reason I ask, is that during an attack, I sweat like mad.  Afterwards, I'm cold.

I've not noticed getting overheated during a cycle when I'm not getting a hit, however.

Hope this &^%$#@ ends for you soon.  I hate high cycle.

Best wishes,

George

Hey George,

I'm talking about at random, but now that you mention it, 1/2 the time they come with shadows.

Cripes, I hope I'm not starting mentalpause at 34!!! :P

Luke (remember him? He was the one trying to hold me down during my hit, in the video) was the first one to point out how my body temperature spiked while I was getting hit.  He said it almost hurt to touch me, I was so hot.  (I always KNEW I was hot stuff!)

I have been told that by several others, since then.

(No comments about being an old lady with your hot flashes)

To your credit Chuck!  ;D

I've always been a super heater/sweater when getting hit. Then I run for a coat when it's done. That's why Christy commented on my thin temperature threshold...hot..cold...hot..cold!!!

I refuse to say I get Hot Flashes.

During a hit my temp goes way up.  Head for the outdoors, the colder the better.

Shadows=too warm
Full hit=sweating my butt off
After shadow/hit=gimme a sweatshirt!!!

I do notice I tend to be a little more sensitive to temp changes when in cycle, but not sure if it's all in my head or not. Just the stress of knowing what's lurking around the corner tends to put me on edge a bit. That might have something to do with it!

Hope you kick it soon Mel!

I think I've had an epiphany.

My hot flashes have been crazy.  I get all heated up, have to take my swear off, fan myself, use a cold pack or cold washcloth on my forehead, then about 3-5 minutes later, I'm chilly, sometimes shivering.  Also, for the past 3 or 4 months before this cycle even began, I've been having problems during my sleeping where I wake up really hot and have to take my jammy pants off.

I wonder, if I really AM perimenopausal and THAT is what has my cycle so screwed up this time?? :-/ :-/

I'm calling the docs office tomorrow.

BTW, Thank you so much Adam!! :-*

I get very hot during a hit. When I get sneezing attacks and itchy eyes my temeprature goes up. I always seek out a cool or cold place when I am hit. The colder the better.

I have never been any good at judging my body temperature and friends and family used to always remind me to wear gloves hat and stuff because I wouldn't notice any effect until I was really cold.

Part of the function of serotonin as I understand it is to regulate body temperature.

Ellick!  You gave me an idea that I'm trying tonight.

I will try Melatonin again, 12mg (I tried 9mg before and ended up with a Migraine, but it wasn't from the melatonin, long story, lol) before bed and then when I wake with an attack I'm going to down a 1/3rd of an energy drink and huff the O2!

I have hope, yes I do!!!!

Hi Melissa,

This is probably a question that everyone knows the answer but me.
Is there a reason why you are not using medication?

If not what about Synergie or psylocybin?

Glad my post gave you an idea. Like you I hope it works.

Defiance, hope and constant questioning; the key to unlocking the answer in the end.

Good luck for later.

Ellick- I do have medication (i.e. Relpax, Amerge), but would rather take natural remedies as prevents and abortives.  I had very, very good luck with Kudzu my last cycle, but I screwed up this cycle by not taking it and took Taurine instead thinking it'd work as a prevent.  It does not for me.  Also, triptans tend to cause a higher attack frequency and longer cycle duration for me.

As for hallucinagenics, I have a history of clinical depression and anxiety/panic disorder and had adverse effects when I tried it last cycle also.  Therefore I chose not to try it for this one.

As for Synergie(?), I am assuming you're taking about Kilowatt3's combo?  I have considered it, but there are some factors that might collide due to vitamins/herbs I'm already taking for other conditions than CH.

Also, I should only have 2 weeks left in this cycle, God willing!

Anyway, thank you for hoping that it works.  I do have a bit of hope that it'll help relieve me.

Hi Mel,
I know this is off topic so I won't come back with anything else on this post.

Have you (this is for the future) heard of the research by Dr Passie in Germany with the use of bromo LSD. I understand that early results are good and should be published soon.

BTW, I am 50 days into a cycle and I haven't had a hit in two days so I am feeling I might be coming to the end of this one and I am looking forward to a few months remission. Could murder a beer (so the saying goes here).

This time round I plan to set up the prevents well before the next one is due. Like you I prefer natural traetment although what ever we take it's always a trade off of some sort. I am either going the buster route or Kilowatts formula.

Trouble with me I get desperate when I am in the peak of a cycle and try lots of things at once so I am never quite sure what fixes what. I always seem to get caught out and am running from behind. Anyway have to stay slow for a few days in case I disturb 'it' dozing.

Ellick.

Mel,
If what you are having is hot flashes and night sweats, you could very well be entering perimenopause (it's not considered menopause until your cycle stops).  34 would be considered a bit young, but not impossible.  Unfortunately, since you have endo, there aren't many things that you can take (a lot of the meds both OTC and rx contain phytoestrogens, which feeds endo).

Title: Re: Hot Flashes?
Post by Melissa on Feb 4th, 2009 at 9:36am
Ellick- No I have not heard of Bromo LSD before.  Sounds like it is promising though and I look forward to the results!  I sooooo hear you about the desperation!  I too have that problem. :(  I am so very glad to hear you have had 2 days PF and hope that you are definately at the END of your cycle! :)

Carolyn- Yes, you are correct about perimentalpause (;))  I have already decided I will not do any HRT myself due to preferring natural help and I am at a higher risk for breast cancer (mom died of it).  When you say there are OTC's that can't be taken due increasing estrogen, have you read anything about Vitamin E doing that also?  I have read (from my Prevention book Vitamin Cures) that Vit. E helps many women with hot flash symptoms.  That and Fenugreek.  Any thoughts?  Thanks!

I know I've read multiple times that Cluster Headaches are not affected by hormones, body changes, etc.

So wouldn't that contradict your "high cycle due to premenopausalness" theory?

For some CH patients there is a direct link to hormones and some have had very effective treatment based on Hormone Replacement Therapy....I am one.

Check out the thread listed below on this forum to see study links and personal experience stories... every CH patient should be at least aware of this potential hormone link and management treatment.

Perimenopause is one possibility - but consider another.  I am pretty sure that I am not in menopause or perimenopause as I am a male. Yet I get hot flashes with my cycle.  So there is some other mechanism for causing them, which can also get haywire when someone is in cycle.

Hot flashes are linked with CGRP levels, which are elevated both conditions. CGRP blockers are being researched for clusters, and have been shown to reduce hot flashes. The hypothalamus is important in regulating body temperature - might be something there that misfires and causes hot flashes independent of anything else.

Menopause or perimenopause can trigger hot flashes, and estrogen tends to block this.  But anything that lowers estrogen, or causes it to fluctuate (even when it is relatively high) might trigger CGRP.

Now that my CH's seem to be somewhat under control (or I'm nearing the end of my cycle), the hot flashes have all but disappeared.

Monty, I am agreeing with you about the elevation in intensity and frequency of the hot flashes were due to my hypothalamus being out of whack due to being in cycle.

I have been in hot flash hell the last few years! The age thing with me. When I am in cycle I do get very hot when I am having a attack. If I am at home when I get a attack, I start peeling my cloths off. I think the heat is from the pain. As far as having hot flashes when not in pain, I don't remember any.

I get hot flashes during my shadows just before an attack, get really red on my left cheek but just generally feel really hot before and then just before the attack finishes I get all hot again for 5 or 10 mins!

When you mean 'HOT FLASHES' is that the same as Hot Flushes.I Definitely get very hot when I'm suffering anything from a kip 7 up. After a really bad attack i usually suffer from really heavy shadows. It's during these shadows that i get what I can only best describe as a HOT FLASH. It comes out of nowhere and its like a small nuclear explosion along the left side of my head. It's a really hot deep sensation that comes and goes within seconds. The funny thing is that its kind of soothing because it takes away that shitty deep shadow feeling. But every time it happens i definitely think the CH has finally  done some damage. :(

Hello Lefty,

When I said hot flashes, I mean where the whole body would feel hot for about 5-10 minutes and then it'd go away.  It repeats throughout the day.

Hi Melissa,

I know i definitely heat up during an attack. Two weeks ago felt an attack coming on, i just had time to drop kids off at parents who live 5mins by car. Didn't have time to leave in middle of a kip 10.By the time my Da had gone to my chemist to get my imigran injection(just recently prescribed) I had to strip of bear back  as i thought i was going to catch fire. Although i believe both parents were reptiles in a previous life because their house is hotter than the Amazon rain forest.....!
