Hi im new to this site but not to ch. Ive been getting ch for the last 12 years and just recently found this site and only just recently started getting help for ch as i havent had health insurance til now. Just had a quick question though... i want to start using o2 and just wanted any and all information i could get. Do i need a prescription or can i do it on my own? Advice for where and what to buy? I know nothing about it so if someone could let me know, i would really appreciate it. This site is awesome by the way!

Good Morning and welcome to CH.com. There is a wealth of information here as well as support.
You will need a prescription for medical 02. Check out the information on the 'medication, treatment, therapies' board. There are two threads at the very top of the board with tons of informaton on 02 use and equipment....pictures included. Also check out the 'oxygen info' tab on the left. Others will be along shortly to answer questions for you. Again....welcome, Jackie edited for typo >:( |

Welcome to the board, so glad you found us. You will need a prescription, oxygen is a controlled substance! It should read something along the lines of:
Oxygen, at a flow rate of at least 15LPM, using a NON RE BREATHER MASK, (Cap'd for emphasis, very important. Rebreather masks and nasal canulas are worthless) as needed. For 02 to work your lungs must get only oxygen. No outside air and no exhaled air. Go to the medications and treatments page and read the following 2 links, Oxygen Terms Explained and Help in Getting oxygen. Chuck has done an awesome job including full color pics to show you examples of set ups. Keep asking questions, knowledge is power! Joe |

The "oxygen info" tab on the left seem to be mostly advertising for the products that LifeGas sells as opposed to Oxygen Info. Chuck's threads have the real info. Marc |

I add my welcome. I'd also mention that, should you have any trouble scoring medical oxygen through your doctor/insurance company, the O2 used in welding is perfectly safe to breathe and is in fact the same gas from the same sources. Many here, including myself, use it regularly.
Let us know if you need more info on this. Good luck! David |

I'm sure that it helps support the cost of running this site.

Yes, Marc, no doubt. And for that I support its presence without question. Although perhaps there might be some other options on the link? Or maybe a second link, one for general info and another for where to go to purchase. Anyway just an idea. |

There is. Go out of this thread and go to Medications, Treatments and Therapies. Look up at the top and you will see 2 different threads on 02 by Cluster Chuck. They are stickied. Everything you need to know about 02 is there.

That's good to know, Jimi, and thanks.... but perhaps someone new to the site would find it more expedient to look at the sidebar and click there, in the same way he or she could find information about Imitrex or water. Just a thought. |
