Title: new here Post by danny on Jun 24th, 2003, 11:16pm Hey all, I'm new to this group. I'm 18 and I think that I have cluster headaches. I'm not totally sure because I only started having these 'headaches' since yesturday. It mainly occurs near nighttime or midday and it hurts from my temple to my ear... It burns wildly and the only thing I can use to describe it is like an icecream headache but worse. It only lasts a few seconds and then stops but it happens more than eight times a day. It's mainly really random. I thought it was cause I was moving my head so much last night, but then I lay down to go to bed and didn't move at all and it starting hurting again. I checked out the pain scale thing and I pin myself somewhere between #1 and 2. Now, I'm only on my second day of this and, reading other accounts, I'm a little afraid for the 5th day. O.O Mind you, before now, I *never* got headaches. EVER. So I don't really know anything. :P |

Title: Re: new here Post by Margi on Jun 25th, 2003, 9:49am Hi Danny I'm sorry to hear you're having headaches. What you describe doesn't really fit the profile of clusters though - it sounds to me to be more like CPH (Chronic Paroxysmal Hemicrania). I would strongly suggest you mentioned that to your doctor and describe your symptoms like you just have to us. Indomethacin is almost 100% effective in treatment, so that's what I'm hoping your diagnosis is. Best of luck, Danny - I hope you find your answer. Margi |

Title: Re: new here Post by danny on Jun 25th, 2003, 7:01pm I told my Grandmother about it and (not surprised at this) she says it's just some silly thing and its cause I'm not washing my hair enough. Which is odd to say the least because I wash my hair about 5 times a day. I told my friend about it and she accused me of being a hypocondriac saying that it's probably just some little thing that I'm blowing out of perportion. Anyways, Gram says I have to wait until Friday when my Father comes home and to get him to take me to the Doctor. One side of me is saying "Okay whatever maybe it IS just a normal headache, I mean, you've never had any headaches before maybe this is what normal headaches are like" and the other side has the mantra "better safe than sorry". :o Honestly, I am torn! What do you guys think I should do? PS: The pain in my head... thus dubbed "little flashes" happened about 10-ish times so far today. They were a little longer than yesturday's and hurt a little more. :P Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to search out tylonel |

Title: Re: new here Post by Ree on Jun 26th, 2003, 7:54pm Danny its not in your mind... Its in your head... find someone in your support system to take you seriously... Then get to a neurologist or even call your pediatrician or general doctor and tell him/her that no one is taking you seriously... You need medical treatment... Tell your granny you talked to a hairdresser (me) and she should keep her wives tales to herself. I have never heard such a thing... and I think I would know if not washing hair caused headaches........ duh??? Grandmas are crazy people... hey maybe thats whats happening to me?!Good luck Danny Ree (keep in touch and let us know what you find out) I think this post should be in the other forum... |

Title: Re: new here Post by danny on Jun 26th, 2003, 8:59pm Well, I did tell my Gram that I was told by a nurse to get medical help... The only person in my support system is a friend who lives in the USA (i live in canada) and his mother is a nurse... Of course, my gram said that I could easily cure it myself?!?! I wish... Heh. My Gram thinks water can cure EVERYTHING. Which is insane. And again, its the whole 'just-a-headache' thing. She said it was *normal*. Oh, my father came home today and I told him about it... rather, I TRIED to tell him about it. I asked him to tell Gram to make me a Doctor's Appointment and he's like "What for?" and I told him about my headaches and he said no. I'll bug him some more about it later cause I doubt he was even listening to me. :-/ (Heh, what a parent for a writer to get eh? Somebody who hates to read and never listens!) GAH! Sorry to gripe! :P |
