Title: Wow and Thanks from Not Crazy After All Post by Donna_D. on Sep 27th, 2003, 11:41pm WOW!! I am overwhelmed and touched by the wonderful, supportive and caring responses I received to my first post. My husband was amazed that I received so many replies, so quickly. It took me until tonight to realize why this particular group is so strong. It all boils down to... It takes one to know one. It is impossible to explain the pain to someone who does not suffer from CH. Thank you to all of you. Just knowing that there is someone (a lot of someones!!) out there who understand really helps. For those of you who read my first post here is a bit of good news. Mother-in-law has redeemed herself. My husband just started a new job and if I go to the doctor now it will be considered a pre-existing condition and not covered on the new policy. From everything I have read so far this is not a cheap illness, so I am having to make due for the next 60 days. Courtesy of some "creative aquisitioning" (SH-H-H-H-H!! Don't tell please) Prednesone (which I have taken before with no ill effects) and O2 are on the way!! Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Any home remedies or suggestions to help me get through will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all! Donna D. |

Title: Re: Wow and Thanks from Not Crazy After All Post by BarbaraD on Sep 27th, 2003, 11:54pm Ok Donna, Here goes my "home remedies" Ya got the O2 that's good... Now... When the first signs of the HA start --- Take 3 Extra STrength Excedrin and a cup of Black Coffee with the O2 (at least 8 ltrs for about 15 min with the mask NOT the nose thingy). BUT don't use the Excedrin too often - they can cause rebounds.... This works for me - sometimes. Lots of water - check out Margie's Water Cure - it works - sometimes. Physical exercise works for a lot of people (frankly banging my head is about all the exercise I can handle). Some do push ups or walk for miles during an attack. One more question -- Does your husband happen to be a Vet? If so... that may help with the medical treatment and meds... it's a thought. Go to the Left and READ READ READ - there are about as many treatments as there are posters here. Nothing works for everyone, but there is something that will help - at least part of the time. You just have to find the right thing. Let us know how it's going and you know we're here for you and your hubby. Glad mother-in=law straightened up. That helps some. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Wow and Thanks from Not Crazy After All Post by TxBasslady on Sep 28th, 2003, 1:06am :) Hi Donna, This is a pretty amazing site, I have to agree. I too felt all alone, till I came here and posted. It was like a miracle to me. The support, love and compassion is unlike anything I have ever experienced. Always someone here to help...no matter what the problem. Good luck on the Prednisone...I just finished a Prednisone taper, and have been pf for 18 days. Not gonna let my guard down tho...I know the beast is still out there. Ice paks worked great for me...had to have one for my eye and back of my neck. I also quit lying down in the bed. That seemed to trigger the ha's for me. I slept propped up on the sofa for several days. I have noticed that there are others here that have a problem lying flat also. Just an idea....not everything works the same for all of us. Best wishes to ya for lotz of pfdan's...... Jean |

Title: Re: Wow and Thanks from Not Crazy After All Post by stevegeebe on Sep 28th, 2003, 7:30am No sweat Donna. Trying to describe this type of pain to others is next to impossible. Some of the descriptions by the "medically afflicted" doesn't even get close enough. Coffee and hot showers were my first remedies and continue to help me. O2 will help. Good kuck with all that you have in front of you and kick some ass. Steve G |

Home remedies: O2 (obviously), lights out computer dimmed, hot or cold paks to the eye and neck (whichever suits you)..........and really really LOUD heavy metal (the more gothic the better, helps distract me) and strong black coffee or water x3 have helped too. Psssst.......don't worry many of here have done um......Questionable things to ourselves and other meds, just try n keep it low key. :-X |

I've always found a demo works well. Insert a hot screwdiver in their left eye and a corkscrew in their ear. Proceed to hit them on the side of the head with a ball peen hammer while pushing the srewdiver and turning the cork screw. Due this for 20 minutes while playing a Guns and Roses album at full volume. Give them a copy of the Kip Scale and tell them they have just experianced a 5. |
