Title: Weekend Poll (not Ch)
Post by Hooter on Sep 26th, 2003, 6:10pm
Hey Folks

You may remember we all voted on the site for our favourite novels of all time (the BBC here was doing a public poll) and I personally read some of the great books you recommended and loved evry minute of them.

Well, they're doing another one.

This time it is the worst film ever!

Lets save each other money and time and nominate the films to avoid. The BBC critic has started off with:

Battlefield Earth
Pearl Harbour
Very Bad Things
Maybe Baby
and Gigli (the Affleck/JLo version)

What do you all think?

Sorry, my vote goes for:

Grease 2
Any of the 'Look Who's talking' ones with the nauseating babies with adult voices

Worst ever?.........ever?

well at least two of the one in the original post shouldn't be there namely "Pearl Harbour" and "Very Bad Things" the latter being very entertaining @ least I thought so :-X

I nominate "Ishtar" and just about anything with Jello (J-Lo )in it. "four weddings and a funeral" was a snoozer, how about "bowling for columbine" guns are rampant in america deal with it, it levels the playing field.  Otherwise only criminals would have guns......sorry rambling........ummm........yeah, the" look who's talking" ones were pretty bad "yentl "comes to mind.......

gotta give it some more thought......a Poser this one.

Anything with Brad Pitt in it.  The endings do nothing but piss me off, except for "7 Years in Tibet".

Other than that, I seem to mentally block out any bad movies I've seen, it's nothing but a waste of memory matter ;D

Went to the theater with Sam a few months ago and decided to watch "Catch Me If You Can" with Tom Hanks (who we normally love)  But that movie SUCKED!!!!  We left before the movie was even over we were so bored.

Hee hee - bad theatre is great - as long as there are 2 robots and Mike sitting in front of the screen cracking witticisms.

Why waste money on bad flicks and noisy audiances. Flickering screen also brings on shadows and worse---rent only movies you want to see and watch them in a "homey" atmosphere.

Nothing beats: "Blair Witch Project." The witch thing was an incredible con job and about the biggest waste of film ever.

For me, "Battlefield Earth" is next. Egad.  :o
"Istar"-- Bleaugh.
The Avengers-- Movie.....Horrible
"Pearl Harbor"--  a real stinkbomb. "Tora Tora Tora" makes it look bad.

I like "The Burbs." Good no brainer. Pretend Hanks isn't in it. I like silly.  :P

I haven't see Gigli or whatever it is, nor "Very Bad Things," nor "Maybe Baby."

Guess I'll shut off my cable.  :-/

I second the nomination for the Blair Witch Project.

The BEST movie I've ever seen is The Ninth Configuration staring Stacy Keach--it came out about 20 years ago.

Oh yes Brad Pitt!

I saw a film on TV here recently with him as an angel coming to earth to take Antony Hopkins away. God knows what it was called, and God knows what Mr Hopkins was up to being in it (must have been short of cash) but it STANK! The actress in it was truly terrible as well, she just twitched and cried and Brad just wandered around looking beautiful (if you like that kind of thing, which I don't)

A truly sick, sensationalist and utterly AWFUL film even if you like porno.

My all time worst movie is The Creeping Terror.

An old, old science fiction flick, where the budget was so tight, they could only afford  extra's (no lines,  so they came cheap) and did all the plot by voice over and off camera screams.

The big alien baddy was a rustling rug of leaves where you could almost see the guy underneath trying out a threatening posture lying on his stomach, just before jumping somebody.+++++

It is absolutely the pits, so if anybody has a tape of this thing, I'd gladly take it off their hands...

Yes, "Meet Joe Black", that was the one, had erased the name from my memory!
Thank God I didn't pay to see it either or I would have asked for my money back it was so desperately awful.

P.S. Some really bad movies are fun, like The Living Dead and some of the really silly Zombie films.

By the way, I've seen Creeping Terror. Great rubber monster that looks drunk. A classic  ::)  The Mystery Science Theater stuff is being shown again I think. It's probably SCI FI Channel   ???  They did all these movies a few years ago.

I can not believe someone actually said Grease 2 was the worst movie ever. I love that movie. Are you kidding? Michelle Pfieffer singing, "I need a cooooooool rider....a coooooool rider...cuz if he's cool enough, he'll burn me through and through, whoa oh oh ohhh..." You should see me do the little dance steps to it too. :)

The worst movie ever made? That would have to be that home video that one time...you know, the one? Now that's some bad acting.

ME TOO GENE.  In fact, when I was a kid, I named my pet hamster Spartacus because it had such a terrific untamed spirit (?).

I also loved all of the Peter Sellers Pink Panther movies.

I really don't care for any of the Van Damme movies either.

Post by Spindrift on Sep 28th, 2003, 8:58am
Well, we need to get our categories straight.  I believe the original post (it was the BBC after all, dahling) pertained to large scale, Hollywood films.  None of those mentioned comes close to being THE worst film ever made as they at minimum had a script (even an execrable one), competent acting (let's be fair at least, regardless of one's personal beefs with actor/tress A or B) and, most importantly, completely professional technical credits.  This last can't be overstressed, as, no matter how bad one of these stinkers might have been, the people actually MAKING the film, camera, lights, sound, editing, etc., were all top-notch pros doing their jobs.  (I'm not counting an everything-but-its-ridiculously-out-of-proportion-box-office dud like Blair Witch Project, which was made on a shoestring and looks it.)

Now then.  If you want really BAD, I mean bottom of the barrel, no-redeeming features, dead cat smell bad, you need to get down into the ranks of the low-budget independents.  Doubtless, as some posters have suggested, there are dozens and dozens of candidates.

I, however, nominate one picture in which I had a hand.  That is, my partner and I wrote the original screenplay, which was subsequently re-written by one of the co-directors and his buddy. (exactly 5 lines of our original script remained in the shooting script)  It is the non-classic "Click:  the Calendar Girl Killer".  It actually has Troy Donahue in it.  The main reason I feel it to be deserving of the honor is that half of it was shot at A DIFFERENT SPEED OF FILM.  This was a cost-cutting measure.

The result is that half the scenes look... weird.  Off by one frame per second, they're jerky and utterly annoying for more than about a heartbeat.  It is, literally, unwatchable.

Top that!

Melissa, you're one of perhaps four people in the western (or eastern) world who've seen that picture.

You have my sympathy.

I recall that my writing partner and I went to see the film the only time in history, I'm assuming, it was projected in a theater.  This was at the American Film Market in LA, and the producers (and I use the term with prejudice, bitterness and scorn) were trying to sell it to foreign markets.  There was one other gentleman in the audience with us, no doubt a buyer.

I know he was a gentleman because he walked out after 15 minutes.

Oh and PS - love your tiger.  I see those pretty much every night.

Yeah...well Battlefield Earth was pretty big production and everything about it sucks. Especially Travolta. Seriously, what the hell was he thinking? Bleaugh.

For me, Strangelove gets better everytime I see it.

I really like Jonny Depp's Ed Wood too.

Haven't any of you seen Vanna White in "Venus, The Goddess of Love"?  A made for TV production written by Merv Griffin in about 1986.

A completely lifeless performance.

It was too bad to be watched......had to turn it off.

Hey Spindrift
I don't think we can top yours! but do I hear a tiny note of secret pride in your post. Was it really that bad!

Saw another howler yesterday (4 year old wanted to see it is my excuse). Remake of the Cinderella story called "Ever After" with Drew Barrymore as Cinderella and a rather tasty Dougray thingy in unfeasible codpieces as Prince Henry (couldn't take my eyes off the tights!)
Angelica Houston did the right thing as the wicked stepmother though and sent it up with some quite fantastic overacting.

Sounds like I enjoyed it doesn't it. Suppose I did, but it WAS really terrible.

Wendy -

Secret pride.... hmmm.  Well, if so it's all about having been part of The Worst Movie Ever Made.  At least I'm #1 in something!  Although there were no codpieces in the film, so I suggest you not bother seeking it out.

As for Donna's mention of the Vanna White "Venus" vehicle:  Although I didn't see it, I do recall that when it was broadcast it played opposite one of the most gripping programs in commercial American television (this isn't to say much, of course....), namely "War and Remembrance".  Specifically, the episode of that miniseries which dealt with Auschwitz.

It was a harrowing couple of hours (the whole series was great).  One would almost say kind of must-see TV before the term came into coinage.  And yes, you've guessed it, "Venus" beat it out handily in the Nielsens  (our TV rating system).  Not surprising.

I'm also brought to mind of something I read a couple of years ago involving one of Vanna's dresses and a diner somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.  Apparently the owner of said establishment had purchased one of the gowns she'd worn doing her glamourous and highly skilled job.  If you don't know what this is, consider yourself fortunate.

The dress was draped on a mannequin and put on display in the diner.  Under it was a box with a sign indicating that if one wanted to TOUCH THE DRESS to please deposit 25 cents.

The box was full of quarters.

Sic transit gloria.

The worst movies of all time? "Orgy of the Dead" (I've never made it through that one in one sitting), "Basketcase" (mentally linked, seperated Siamese-twins (one carries the other around in a wicker basket) and necrophilia all in one flick), "Revenge of the Cheerleaders" (with a young, singing David Hasshoff), and "The Forbidden Zone" (with Tattoo from Fantasy Island as the king of the Forbidden Zone).

I might note here that I adore and seek out "bad" movies.

I'm gonna have to say "Master of Disguise".  Sure the turtle part is good... but forward to that part, watch it, then take it out FAST!

"Gosford Park"... i think that's the title... it's like watching a 2 hour conversation.  it's a great substitute for sleeping pills.

"Punch Drunk Love"... what's up with the tiny Piano?  Drunk may be the best way to watch this one.

"Vulgar"  Disturbing.  Clowns never made me uncomfortable until I saw that one.

"Moulin Rouge"  ... I think "Chicago" ruined this one for me.  I loved Chicago.. but with Moulin I couldn't get past the parts where they sang Nirvana tunes.

"Hanibal"  There's an hour and half of my life I'll never get back.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head... of course they'll come to me the second I end this post.

OMG!!!! Reading this thread made me remember a really, really, stupid, cheesy horror film. Being the horror movie freak I am... I was probably the only person who ever rented "FRANKENHOOKER" from Blockbuster.
I had to rent it again to show my friends, then I rented it again because I loved the way the mad scientist got high: He had a plastic brain with flags in it, pulled one out, and then placed a drill at the exact location on his skull. He drilled into it saying "Goodnight number 22!" - Egad! I actually remember the number.
It's the tragic story of an inventor who invents a self-working automated lawnmower that accidently runs over his bride to be and kills her. Desperate to get her back, he freezes her head, then kills off numerous hookers to obtain body parts to put back together his beloved. When she comes to life, she escapes and is found on the streets..."Wanna Date?" "Got ten bucks?"

That has to be the cheesiest movie ever made next to "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"

Peece,

Hannibal has nothing going for it.

We're missing the made for TV mess: "Golaith Awaits."
Lots of 70s type actors, along with Christiphor Lee and Co. as despot types aboard a sunken British passenger liner that has been waiting to be found for 40 years. It was on the Mystery Channel or something recently . WHY? Just awful.
