Title: My new doctor said ... Post by UnsolvedEquation on Sep 26th, 2003, 12:40pm Just thought i'd share this with you all >> I had to get a new 'family doctor' for insurance reasons. He has NOTHING to do with my headaches or my neurologists. I was filling him in on my health history when I told him I have clusters, been epesodic for 12 years and chronic for the last 3. He said "Well it sounds like your pretty lucky though. It could've been much worse. You could've got 'ice pick' headaches". |

Title: Re: My new doctor said ... Post by don on Sep 26th, 2003, 1:42pm Do you think he is teachable? Might help the next poor CH sufferer who see's him for a diagnosis. |

Title: Re: My new doctor said ... Post by UnsolvedEquation on Sep 26th, 2003, 2:46pm Good question Don ... but No, I don't think he is teachable. I think he's got his mind set to what everything is. He's the kind of person who'll probably be offended or maybe amused that I could teach him anything. |

Title: Re: My new doctor said ... Post by BarbaraD on Sep 26th, 2003, 2:48pm Ok, here's OUR chance to TEACH. These people are not GOD.... They MUST be taught.... We must keep our cool and take them by the hand and lead them down the path of Clusters - one step at a time. We may NEED them. It's taken me 10 years to break in my family doc, but he's learned. I had an attack in his office one day. That kinda speeded up the learning process a little. He was worn out after I finally let go of his lab coat after about 15 minutes of holding on and banging my head against his chest. His words were, "I didn't realize they were that bad!" Since then I call his office and say "headache" and I get IMMEDIATE attention. He and my neuro work together really well, but if I need an RX filled in a hurry, I can call him anytime and have NO PROBLEM. So don't give up on your docs. Just be patient and EDUCATE them. Make them listen - or have a CH in their office - whichever comes first. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: My new doctor said ... Post by Prense on Sep 26th, 2003, 5:02pm I have been giving docs info about this all year long...some can be taught! They might not admit that to you, but I assure you that many probably take in what you say or show them to a certain degree. I consider that as progress. I wont stop trying. |
