Title: not sure if this would work, but... Post by meinster on Sep 19th, 2003, 2:43pm Hey guys since I am new to this I have been looking for all kinds of things that would help relieve/prevent some of the symptoms. 1. I have noticed that if I am chewing gum All DAY, the shadow headaches disappear and if I get a ckluster it is not as severe. The reason that I may think this may work is the fact that chewing exercises the jaw muscles and I can actually feel a sort of massage on my temples. Of course, I have only been trying this for 3 days and I end up with a bit of a sore jaw (but beats the cluster) 2. In Canada, we have a company called 'saje' and thay have a migraine aromatherapy called "peppermint Halo" that gives a cool feeling when applied, I have applied this before bedtime around the area where the cluster comes and it allows me to have a restful night. I tend to concetrate on the 'cool' feeling to slumber me to sleep. 3. Humming seems to work for me, especially "sound of music' sounds crazy i know, but the vibrations I make when humming provide a bit of relief. 4. Lastly, I have a sports rub with menthol, and one day while applying it I noticed that the menthol smell besides clearing my nostrils, helped with HA. Not being one to experiment, I applied some of it to the temple and rubbed, The feeling was weird but the relief was instant. I believe this is the same effect as the 'Peppermint Halo'. the sports rub that I use I got from Costa Rica, but I went to the local pharmacy and they all have the same ingredients. OK, well that is all I have come up with and I am soo happy that so far today, I have had no shadow headaches or clusters. If I come up with something else I will wrtie all of you. By the way, I tried the water thing and it did not work, but I got to know the bathroom very intimately ( ;D ) Heinz |

Title: Re: not sure if this would work, but... Post by surfshi on Sep 19th, 2003, 6:50pm Glad to hear it works for you Yaae... I have found relief a few times but not all the time with Dristan nasal spray... But on a few occasions it acted as a trigger. The benifit out weighed the consequence. halfto remember this trick and try it myself. I think the dristan had something to do with shutting down or suppressing the uncontrollable release of histamine in the brain while the attack is occuring...Surf |

We need new blood here. Speaking of blood, in case you haven't seen this: Here are two links: One for a technique I found effective and a second link to a description of this disease which does a wonderful job explaining to employers and others that this has nothing to with what is thought of as a “headache.” http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/ http://www.ouch-uk.org/ch/note_colleagues.cfm Good luck and welcome to the madhouse Charlie |

ME TOO! For years now, I have used Tiger Balm (all natural-find in grocery stores or drug stores). Massage it into temples and forehead, then sit in front of the car's air conditioning vent (full force-full cool). It helps me. Am also using the strongest...Capzaisin-HP. Doesn't work immediately, but does help during the cycle. Keep rubbing this in 2 or more times daily and take a hot shower when in pain. This seems to "release" the heat from the cream. WORD OF CAUTION!!!!! Sample try the capzaisin cream on non tender skin first. It might blister you. |

See? You should be humming the sound of music and chomping some gum! ;D |

Title: Re: not sure if this would work, but... Post by goaway on Sep 20th, 2003, 10:36pm OK, OK, if you promise not to tell..... instead of chompin' on gum... I chomp on good ole' Peach flavored chaw (any questions?). I order mine from The Gatlinburlier in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Honestly, I must be tired. Letting out such information! ;) Oh, and I also like the Chicory flavored coffee. You just have to be a bit more careful when chewin' though. |

Title: Re: not sure if this would work, but... Post by goaway on Sep 20th, 2003, 10:39pm And one other thing, I do NOT recommend rubbing the Peach chew into your temples OR forehead. Just the Tiger Balm and Capzaisin-HP. And hum all you want to, too! :D |

Title: Re: not sure if this would work, but... Post by Tom K on Sep 21st, 2003, 8:25pm Tiger Balm? How many do you have to squeeze to get enough balm out? Thanks everyone for giving me a good laugh...it's been a while, got 2 today and they are growing in intenseity, or however it is spelled! T |

Title: Re: not sure if this would work, but... Post by goaway on Sep 22nd, 2003, 7:37pm No, no, but seriously... how many tigers one would need to squeeze is directly related to whether any of the tigers have been chewin' Peach chaw. :D AND IF MELISSA READS THIS: Just remember, the others made me do it. ;) |
||
Title: Re: not sure if this would work, but... Post by Tom K on Sep 22nd, 2003, 9:09pm Some days it seems that shoving dynamite up my nose would be a whole lotta relief...probably better than shoving a tiger up my nose, even if it were coated with peach chaw! LOL! But seriously...oh never mind! |

Title: Re: not sure if this would work, but... Post by goaway on Sep 23rd, 2003, 11:02pm Hey Tom, If I'm not mistaken (?), I believe they even have a chew named 'Ol Snort. Want their number? :D |
