Title: Re: Who all is in Post by 5-string on Sep 17th, 2003, 7:05pm I live in the chesapeake bay area in Baltimore county, Md. It's supposed to hit late morning here. It's very likely we may lose power for a few days. And a few shingles as well as lawn furniture. Hey, maybe I'll go to Ozz and get a new head! :D If I do, I'll fill a couple of pallets with them and bring 'em back to y'all. |

I hate what the storms do to people and property, BUT I LOVE to watch them!!! Believe me, I will be out driving around all thru it!!! But, it has turned into a whimpy storm. . . It is down now to only 105 MPH ... It was up over 150MPH ... The eye is due to hit the outer banks between noon and 1pm, but there will be hurricane force winds WAY before the eye hits! Title: Re: Who all is in Post by clubmakerbob on Sep 18th, 2003, 7:19am Not in the path of this one but was in the path of Andrew when it hit Louisian in 92. No power for 4 days after it came thru. Not a lot of fun. 100+ mph winds can do more damage than you think when they are sustained for a time. As for the storm being a wimp...those are the ones that will get you. There will still be lots of rain and surge. Be prepared and stay safe. |

Title: Re: Who all is in Post by Miss_Deleny on Sep 18th, 2003, 7:36am I'm not near there but my mother, grandparents, sister and a few other relatives is. The hurricanes always worry me cause they seem to end up there on the east coast of NC. It may be a "wimpy" 105 mph hurricane but even at those winds, it can still do quite a bit of damage with the tide surges. I remember a couple of years ago, a "wimpy" one went through NC and my sister as well as quite a few others, were without electricity for over a week. My sister was living in a trailer and her and her children had to evacuate out because of the water from a near-by river was well over her stoop. Houses were flooded, people and their pets were stranded and cars were floating down the street. Thats what a "wimpy" hurricane can do :( I'm keeping all those in the path of Isabell in my prayers. ~April~ |

Title: Re: Who all is in Post by ClusterChuck on Sep 18th, 2003, 8:58am Rest easy, all ... When I said "whimpy" it was done with tongue in cheek. I have now been through several of these, and I KNOW what they can do! April, are you refering to Floyd, back in 1999? I was here for that one too, and I personally witnessed the devastation that can happen. I will NEVER forget the tears that I cried as I drove down the roads (after the flooding receded) and saw EVERYTHING that a person owned, out in a pile next to the street ready for trash pickup. As much as I love to watch mother nature in her fury, I hate what it does. I hope to NEVER see the devastation, that the floods of Floyd inflicted on eastern North Carolina, ever happen again! It is now 10:15 am, and Isabel has not even hit the shore yet, but there are already gusts here to 45MPH. Isabel is not due to hit land until around 1:30pm. Chuck |

Title: Re: Who all is in Post by Miss_Deleny on Sep 19th, 2003, 8:24am Just to let you all know, my mom, grandparents and sister as well as alot of my family that live in and around Carteret County in North Carolina (east coast) survived Isabel ... BUT ... as I found out this morning .. some other relatives that live in Cape Hatteras are still in question. Hatteras village was hit REALLY hard and alot of the homes there fell to the ground under the winds and water from Isabel. I have MANY relatives that live there and we are in the process of trying to contact them or find out information about them. ~April~ |

Title: Re: Who all is in Post by jmorgan52 on Sep 20th, 2003, 2:47am My son phoned me from the States last night. He said the storm itself was quite mild in Baltimore, but Cheaspeake Bay was flooded out and the streets around him were all flooded deep in water. Electricity is out for a few days as the basement is flooded. (why do they always put the electricity distribution in the basement?) He was a bit disapointed in not seeing a force 4 hurricane first hand but I am just glad he is ok! Hope you all survived it ok too. I hope you maganged to contact all your folks April. John |

Title: Re: Who all is in Post by Miss_Deleny on Sep 20th, 2003, 11:14am Still waiting to hear some news but as they say, no news is good news :-/ I'm sure if it was something really terrible, I would have heard about it by now. Thank you for your concern :) I go through this every time a hurricane goes near land .. my kids are in Fl and I have family from there all the way up to Ct. All are on the east coast line. I'm glad your son is ok John. :) ~April~ |
