Title: Re: Law Enforcement & Corrections Officers?!?!?! Post by TxBasslady on Sep 6th, 2003, 1:59pm Hi Pugsley.....I am new also, but retired from Law Enforcement. Fortunately, I was not a CH sufferer while I was still in Law Enforcement. I have been retired since 1994. Didn't get the visit from this beast till about a year and 1/2 ago. I worked for one of the largest S.O.'s in the State. I am not sure how this would have affected me. Fortunately, for me, my attacks are always at night , usually within an hour or 2 after I go to sleep. Hope all goes well for you sweetie. Sorry that you have to be here with me and the rest. But they do seem to be a great group of folks. Here's best wishes for your career......and hope you have alot of pfdan. Ummm, there is another ex-cop, I think his name is Echo. |

Title: Re: Law Enforcement & Corrections Officers?!?!?! Post by Jimi on Sep 6th, 2003, 3:23pm Hi Jonny, Did you call? I am always around :) Welcome Pugs..........It can be tough. 02 works very well for me. I kept a tank in my cruiser, a tank at the post (office) etc. If I was gonna be in court all day. If I had court, I would scout out the area until I could find a small dark room or an office with privacy and put a tank in there. I would always tell the prosecuting attorney that I was fighting a bad meegraine and if it got worse I may have to go in there and breathe the pure oxygen. I told him ,as strange as it sounds, it makes it go away. So if I was on the witness stand and felt one coming on, I would tell the DA, I needed a 15 minute break, that I was getting sick to my stomach. He would then call a recess. It didn't happen often, but you got to plan ahead. I have never had one when something heavy was going down. Guess the adrenaline rush kept one from forming. Good luck.........It IS hard U/1473 KSP retired |

Title: Re: Law Enforcement & Corrections Officers?!?!?! Post by Jimi on Sep 7th, 2003, 3:28pm 8) Yes Linda I am still around. I am never on here at night because I am never at home at night anymore. I check it everyday though. I still keep up with you guys. I have been pain free since Atlanta and am holding on to the thought that .....could I have finally outgrown them? Of course I thought that the last time. And after 3 years, they came back and lasted for 6 mos. I have been reading Carl's posts and am thinking that we should have the next convention in St. Louis and have their band do a concert for us on Saturday night. In other words, let the convention be the Ouch Fest. But it would take someone there to host it and sit up the speakers etc. Just a thought......... ;) |

Title: Re: Law Enforcement & Corrections Officers?!?!?! Post by KipBurbank on Sep 7th, 2003, 6:18pm I have been on the witness stand in a homicide trial when I reached into my suit jacket, loaded and shot myself with imitrex in the calf, put the shooter back in the case and back in my pocket and I don't think anyone saw anything as I did it very confidently and kept my eye contact towards others. It is tough, I have missed several days of work this week but hopefully the cycle is ending. Kip |

Title: Re: Law Enforcement & Corrections Officers?!?!?! Post by Charlie on Sep 7th, 2003, 9:41pm Welcome to the madhouse and I hope you stick around. Here is a link to Simon's letter which does a great job explaining to others what this thing is and that it has nothing to do with what is thought of as a "headache." It's well worth passing around to whomever may need it. http://www.ouch-uk.org/ch/note_colleagues.cfm Good luck, Charlie |

Title: Re: Law Enforcement & Corrections Officers?!?!?! Post by Callico_Kid on Sep 8th, 2003, 1:29am Hi Pugsley, welcome aboard. I can't speak to what it would do with your job performance, but I have had to step down as chaplain with our local PD because of the liability I would be to an officer if out on patrol with him (her). I would tend to think that if you were under stress dealing with a situation you would be ok. For me the trouble times would be on a quiet night with nothing going on. I wish you the best! Thank you for the job you are doing, Jerry |
