Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by Carl_D on Sep 4th, 2003, 10:05pm I am partial to St Louis, MO as it is very close to me, plus I think the St Louis area has alot to offer, as we have Wash. U. here as well as one of the top hospitals in the country, Barnes Jewish Hospital. There are also tons of other stuff here, such as the Science center, the Zoo, anything that one wants to do as far as ciriccular activities. We have Lambert airport, tons of hotels, and several options as far as halls and such that can be rented for the event. Not to mention, if you stand away from a big map and point your finger at what you believe to be the center and I am sure you will be near St Louie. I know Elaine suggested Nashville, TN before but I thought about it last night and I was in Nashville awhile back and it is EXPENSIVE. Anyway, just a suggestion. Peace, Carl D |

We also have 5 casinos, 3 pro sports teams, light rail system, Six Flags, plenty of restaraunts and shopping malls and of course free tours AND samples at the Budweiser brewery...and for those who partake in such things there's plenty of strip clubs right across the river in Illinois :D Jim |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by Mr.Happy on Sep 5th, 2003, 1:13am Don, I don't want to host the next convention. Face it......does anyone come to Philadelphia _Voluntarily_? Never the less.........doesn't matter where the next convention takes place..........the most important factor is the ability to be off by ourselves. AC in the summer is a good thing as well. Ain't going for any joy rides, sight seeing, or fine dining. Going to meet CHeads......and the cheaper the better. Want to spend as much time with the group as possible in a central location 24/7, except for sleeping and meetings. Personally, I kinda find that to be the point. That's just me, tho. No class act here........ Rather have Beans and Freedom, RJ |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by suzy617 on Sep 5th, 2003, 5:19am I agree with Happy. As long as the hotel/motel/cottage, whatever it is, has a general meeting place for all of us to hang out together is the most important thing. The last convention, I only left the grounds to eat a few times and a boat ride. Other then that, my ass was planted on that porch. Oh and dont forget, there has to be a beer distributor near by... ;D Oh yea, I did leave one other night to go to the baah in the caah. Suzy |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by taraann on Sep 5th, 2003, 8:39am I totally wish I had the time to host a convention here in New Hampshire....but 2 toddlers and a teen dont leave much time for that....BUT I am in the middle of tourist heaven here. Lakes Region, tons of beaches, the board walk, lotsa bars, great natural sights to see, places like Clarks Trading Post, scenic train rides, the mount washington boat, and lots of tax free shopping. Iknow there are a ton of hotels that could accomadate a large group of people also with meeting rooms etc.....Anyone near me wanna host it so I can go (hint hint nudge nudge ;D) Ok kinda a useless post from me cause I can't host....sorry for wasting time. |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by Carl_D on Sep 5th, 2003, 8:43am Okay, I am a bit slow...what exactly does hosting the convention entail? Carl D (who STILL hasn't slept yet again) |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by Carl_D on Sep 5th, 2003, 9:02am COOL!!! I'd love to host. I am stupid in the fact I will try anything once. LOL. I am racking my brain with the OUCHFest benefit, and think I bit off a lil more than I can chew, but the can of worms has been opened and there is no turning back now. We were discussing last night, (or was it today? I HATE not sleeping) if OUCHFest '03 is a success, this could become an annual event. Several people have said they will come, and I told Mike last night we are sure to draw people from all over to this event. I am sure the club owner will go for it, as it means business for him, and that is what counts in most clubs... what we call 'beer politics'. We won't provide alcohol, such as having a kegger, etc. You'll have to get your drinks from the bar, though I told Jonny when I see him the first pitcher of suds is on me. Peace, Carl D |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by 9erfan on Sep 5th, 2003, 10:50am ok, here's me whining.... Can we have it somewhere (anywhere) that isn't humid in the summer?? Just a suggestion... ??? Sorry to be a trouble maker! |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by don on Sep 5th, 2003, 11:14am If we recieve any proposals we will take your request into consideration. ::) |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by 9erfan on Sep 5th, 2003, 11:25am Thanks Don. Do we have anybody in the Seattle area? Don't get me wrong, wherever it is decided upon I'm definitely going next year. And I think some of the cities already suggested are cool cities, I just wouldn't normally voluntarily go there in the summer months. |

Well so much for St Louis. You haven't seen humidity until you've been here in July & August...we have weather you can wear. Jim |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by StanTheMan on Sep 7th, 2003, 2:31pm Well, if you want to avoid heat 'n humidity, Kansas City is NOT where you want to be (mid June thru August). However, I recall that Milwaukee was kicked around as a possible site for 2003 last year. I'll bet it's a bit cooler, they got the beer places (for those who care). Plus they got the BIG LAKE, etc., etc. Anyone in the Milwaukee area up to the hosting job? (I could probably come and help -- my sis and brother in law live there.) Just a thought. Stan :) |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by nancyc on Sep 8th, 2003, 12:10am Maybe a dumb suggestion but with cruises so cheap now and free food, etc...why not get a group booked and let's get a great deal and to to Hawaii or the Bahamas...what a convention that would be...just a suggestion ....smiles,nancyc |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by BobG on Sep 8th, 2003, 12:54am I like Nancy’s suggestion. A 4 day-3 night cruise to the Bahamas can be had for $500 or less per person. A 7 day cruise to the eastern or western Caribbean is about $700 to a $1000. That includes air travel to Florida and return home, all meals and buffets, nightly entertainment, swimming pools, hot tubs, work out spa. If the group is large enough (about 50 or more) they will usually toss in a meeting room and a bunch of freebies. Any good travel agent can arrange this sort of thing. We’ve been on Carnival Cruise lines, Princess, an Italian ship line that I can’t remember the name of, thank goodness, it sucked big time. And just 3 weeks ago we were on the Norwegian Sky to Alaska. Carnival is a great party line. Good for the 35 and under crowd. Great service. Princess is very good with beautiful, huge ships. Great service. Norwegian has beautiful ships. Mostly older, 45+, crowd. I’ve never seen more gray hair and wrinkles in one place in my life. The favorite item at the buffet was prunes. If a convention was held in Nashville for example, how much is air fare, hotel room costs, all meals, entertainment, maybe a car rental going to cost for someone from NY or California? Compare it with the cost of a cruise and I think you’ll find more bang-for-the-buck with cruisin’. |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by Mark C on Sep 8th, 2003, 1:34am Hey Bob, Didnt you take a crusie on one of those great big boats this year? What was the name of that thing..as I remember it was HUGE!...I think I like this idea alot.....I like boats! 8) |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by RevDeFord on Sep 8th, 2003, 8:41am If it were held in St. Louis, I would actually be able to go. I live near Kansas City. |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by Elaine on Sep 8th, 2003, 1:29pm If you can't find anyone to host a convention. Then pick the town you want it in and I will host the thing! Bob P proved you didn't have to live where the convention is to put one on! If thats whats holding things up I would be happy to do it! I am sure Cat and some others would be more than willing to help! Just pick a place LOL! |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by cootie on Sep 8th, 2003, 5:12pm I agree with Happy and Suzy....when at a convention like this it is MOST EXCELLENT ta have a big area for all ta hang out and kick back and make noise 'most of the time'......and be able to be loud and stay up late as ya want (and aqoustic musical entertainment of guitars and harmonicas be allowed)......everyone purdy much wants ta hang tight. The resort last time was a great place fer that. Pam that was glad security didn't tell us ta STFU on that porch so late whoopin it up ;D A cruise would be super cool tho I admit...do they have vacines for Norwalk virus yet ? ;) |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by Mr.Happy on Sep 8th, 2003, 5:34pm Y'all better get this thing straight soon....or it's going to DEFAULT to _Philadelphia_. Talk about lessons hard learned. Then again, we could all camp out at Coot's, play tapes of loud Harley pipes all night, and pee off her porch. The cops won't bug us, the beer will be cold, and we can drop Tent City inside of 90 minutes. (No cruises, no islands. Sorry folks.......one taste of that life, and I'd never come home. Besides.......have you ever seen the BAR TAB on a Luxury Liner?) First dibs on Brad, RJ |
||
Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by cootie on Sep 8th, 2003, 6:40pm Hey Happy we won't have to play tapes of Harley drag pipes....we have the real thing here and can arrange for more ! And I can have my frieind bring his dyno tuner over and load up bike after bike and really listen to some screamin motors. Sure.....you can pee off my deck......Brad does it all the time....but I don't (girl thing)........bad thing is everyone has ta park out in the road.....short narrow driveway here with hill on one side and house on the other. Get yer motor runnin Pam ;D If all else fails what about a nice big hotel with a bar and conference room fer the seminar part. You can rent a hospitality suite to let everyone hang out in all nite that wants ta stay up and gab or jam musical instruments. We go to a few that are set up that way and the room we all hang out in has a hot tub and bar with coffee maker and fridge. There's resturants next door with bar or jus good food we walk to plus a bar in the hotel with good chicken wings and food stuff. Plus a pool....sum hotels will let ya use the pool after hours I think (not sure which ones)......it's an all in one affordable deal esp if ya rent a block of rooms. Holiday Inn's are the ones we've gone to for weekend conferences ect. Had a blast......Pam that is jus makein sudjestions |

Title: Re: Want to host the next OUCH Convention? Post by BobG on Sep 8th, 2003, 8:06pm Mark C……Yeah, it was a big sucker, about 2500 passengers, but that’s about average size. Last month we took the Norwegian Sky from Seattle up through the inside passage to Ketchikan, Juneau, Sawyer Glacier and Skagway. Then turned around and came back along the outside passage with a stop in Victoria, BC. If you’ve never been to Victoria then you’ve missed a most beautiful city. We were there only one day and plan our next vacation to go back again. My high school class had our 25th reunion on board a Carnival Lines ship to the Bahamas. 75 of us (out of 125) left Florida on New Years Eve and had the Mother-of-all-parties. The cruise line gave us the use of a meeting room each day for three days at no charge. They also threw in trays of food, bottles of wine, and a keg of beer at no charge. Mr Happy, the bar tab on a cruise ship isn’t what you would imagine. The drinks are about the same price as your local saloon. Surprised me too. And the coffee bars are about the same as Starbuck$. There ain’t no porch but you could pee off the deck. And it’s open all night. And the (free) buffet’s are usually open until midnight. My motto is “No pain, no gain. Eat til it hurts!” How about cruisin’ on the Mississippi. Pricey, but St. Louis to New Orleans would be cool. |
