Title: newbie wants to know more on DHE Post by skivy on Sep 2nd, 2003, 5:05pm Howdy CH-er's: In the middle of CH season and am finding that my old faithfuls are not cutting the mustard. (Even spray Imitrex is not slowing down the effects.) I have an appointment with the doc tomorrow and have read that DHE is now available at home. I would like to get anyone's feedback on this product. I am now in headache hangover after a 6-7 hour episode and would greatly appreciate your help. Hope you are all doing well and your football teams are looking good for the fall. Skivy |

Title: Re: newbie wants to know more on DHE Post by 9erfan on Sep 2nd, 2003, 5:31pm Sorry Skivy, wish i could help. I've never tried DHE at home. I've only had it in shot format in the ER as well as injections every 4 hours during an 8-day hospital stay. Can't tell you if it worked or not. They were combining it with Prednisone, Dilaudid, and Thorazine every 4 hours. :-/ |

Title: Re: newbie wants to know more on DHE Post by BonnieW on Sep 2nd, 2003, 5:49pm Hi, my husband uses DHE by injection at home when the oxygen does not work, and CH is bad. It has always aborted the headache for him, but it is a pain to get ready. Comes in small glass ampule, that we have to break open, and then draw up into syringe, then inject. No way he can do that in middle of CH - so you probably need a second person around to do it. Also, better to inject in thigh than arm, as very painful going in. Good luck! |

Title: Re: newbie wants to know more on DHE Post by Orion on Sep 2nd, 2003, 10:36pm I've done the shots at home. My wife is a real trooper and does the injecting, but I have done some on my own (just don't wait too long, that's the hard part). Normally I use the DHE spray (Migranal). And just a warning sometimes these do not give me (an operative word) complete relief and there may also be a rebound later, but they have got me through. PFNAD 8) |

Title: Re: newbie wants to know more on DHE Post by Ree on Sep 2nd, 2003, 11:18pm My husband Dave had DHE a few cycles ago when his cycle went to 7 months and he was getting hit several times a day... It worked for him... Scared the poop out of me... it was fairly new to the hospital staff to use and they put him on heart monitors and all every time they administered it and made the Chief of Staff do the honors... about 24 hours out of the hospital he got hit with one good attack and then remission for about 2 years after that... good luck... ree |
