Title: PAIN RELIEF Post by PETE_MARIAH on Aug 31st, 2003, 6:03pm I do not post often but, I wanted to let everyone know about a new pain medication that I found that actually works! It's called Actiq. It is used for breakthrough pain in cancer patients and is being trialed on headache pain. It comes in the form of a rasberry flavored lollipop and from 200 mcg-1200 mcg of Fentanyl. It is only for people who are already opioid tolerant. (used to taking morphine daily) I was taking Demoral for along time and it was not always getting rid of the pain and taking up to 45 mins. to start the pain relief and Actiq works in less than 5 mins. Only problem is it does not last very long. (1-1 1/2 hrs. vs. 3 hrs. relief w/ Demoral) It is also very expensive if you do not have insurance ($15 per pop for 600 mcg) It requires a triplicate rx since it is a narcotic. Also does anyone have any info on Sansert. Was thinking of driving down to Mexico to get some, any info if it can be found there? Also may try Canadian online pharmacies any info on that as well? Title: No thanks Post by Opus on Aug 31st, 2003, 6:41pm Pete, If you have Ch ( I doubt if you do ) and narcotics work for you then great. For most not all of us narcotics make things worse. Our drugs of choice Imitrex in the injectable form Is I believe $65 a treatment. If you can come up with a source for Cheaper Imitrex which is safe and reliable I am sure you will make many friends. |

Title: Re: PAIN RELIEF Post by PETE_MARIAH on Aug 31st, 2003, 7:46pm My headaches are caused by military exposure but I exibit many of the same symptoms of ch. My headaches are helped by Sansert, which is no longer available and pain meds. I noticed looking on this website that some use pain meds and I thought this info may help those people that are able to take narcotics to manage thier pain. If you are not able to take narcotics to help I am sorry for you, but for those that are able this medication, Actiq, works well and fast. Narcotics are a last resort since there are addictive, but when the pain is bad you have to do what ever you can. Best of luck to you. Pete |

You describe a "secondary HA". Typically speaking, those are treated by treating the primary cause. If there is no cure for the primary cause, then pain management is typical. CH is normally unsucessfully managed under the concept of pain management. That is why a preventative medication or combo is sought after...to try to prevent the attacks in the first place. Abortives are not normally taken to kill pain, but to stop or at least reduce what is causing it. That is what keeps me out of the ER...more times than not, they want to treat the pain (demoral in my experience) and send you on your way. Then, you are doped up and still hurting...not fun at all. Narcs, for me, are definately not the way to go as I am a chronic sufferer. This site is intended for clusterheads because what we do can be detrimental to other HA sufferers. That goes both ways.
