Title: I'm getting my Beagle pup
Post by Donna on Aug 25th, 2003, 11:56pm
in about 2 weeks.  She'll be a 12" little girl when she grows up and hasn't got a name yet.  Maybe it'll be Little Girl..........any suggestions?

Has anyone ever litter box trained a small dog?  I hate going out in the rain...although I do have a good invention that would solve that problem.  Thought it up about 13 years ago but never had the money to patent and put it into production.....or the know-how to sell it.

Any investors out there?  Almost any dog owner would be interested in this one.

12 inches long when she is grown? I thought Beagles were bigger than that. Are you sure it isn't one of those Mexican dogs. The kind that Taco Bell uses.

Beagles rock! (http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/breeds/beagles.html#description)

Two standards for Beagles..
"SIZE Desirable minimum height at withers 33cm (13 ins). Desirable maximum height at withers 40cm (16 ins).

*** Please note, in the USA, there are two recognized sizes.
13 inches (Not exceeding 13 inches at the withers.)
15 inches (Not exceeding 15 inches at the withers.)"

We have had a couple throught the years...very good dogs. Smart and a little stubborn. The best method I have found yet to housebreak a dog (or anyone) is when they have an "accident" in the house, do not use negative vibes but instead after you clean it up take the dirty towel with the urine smell on it and the offending dog both outside and let the dog smell the urine and pet the animal profusley, outside. Positive reinforcement works.

Good luck,
Mark

Stubborn is putting it nicely....ours is 5 years, old lately we have started calling her Diva  cause she acts like one....we love her though...and howls like nobodies buisness...sets off the whole neighborhood....soon to be moving to the country where I think she will be happy...she can howl with the coyotes ....maybe i'll do alittle howling myself! :D

Why walk a dog?  Just cut a hole in the wall, install a doggie door, built a fenced in pen on the outside where the doggie door is, and throw the dog through the door when it needs to go... Works best when the room the doggie door is in has linoleum or tiled floor... That way you can just slide the dog across the floor through the door... Otherwise, if ya don't have a good aim, the dog may get a bit pissed...

OK, so maybe I was getting a little lazy.  Jeezz...nobody will let me act old when I feel like it.  How can I push a dog out of a little door when I'm holding an umbrella?

I made a mistake about her size...she's the smaller one so it has to be 13" tall.  I've been waiting a long time for her..........til my son and grandson found their own place....and they have.

We had Beagles when I lived the first 3/4 of my life up in Ohio.  We also had 5 acres of woods, so they had the time of their lives chasing rabbits.......and their baying sound is so stirring to listen to.

Thanks guys,  for the tips.

Glad you're getting a Beagle. I had one......egad.....50 years ago exactly.  Hard to believe. One thing about Beagles, they usually let you know where they are.

I think Beagles are easy to train but mom and dad didn't do anything fancy...just ran him out back.

I have onea the new dog boxes with the dog litter (both esp made fer dogs and ocme in 3 sizes of pans) at the far end in the rec room. My mom's lill dog is 100 % housebroke to there dog box too. They are a good deal but you still have to work with them settin them in it when young often jus as you would takein them outside to go. I have 7 dog doors in my house......have a small in-house kennel and each pen has it's own run onto the back decks. Good luck with the beagle pup...they are so cute !!!!! Pam that has alota dogs and cats (I live with them)
