Some take meds AND use O2. Some only use O2. Some use only meds.

It depends on how well/fast the meds and the O2 work for you, the personality of a particular CH, how often you are getting hit, how many meds you have available, etc.

Find out what works BEST for you. I would suggest talking to your dr about getting Imitrex injections or Zomig dissolving tabs along with the O2 as abortives...then you can experiment at home to find out what YOU need to stop the CH in its tracks.

I would also talk to the dr about a preventative...check out the "medications" link to the left. Verapamil seems to be the drug of choice for many Ch'ers, with great efficacy and few side effects. Your dosage may have to be upped gradually to achieve PF. Some here are at 960+mg/day.

If your dr isnt too knowledgable about CH, but is willing to work with you....print out as much info as you can before you go...be prepared for what you would like to try...what you need.

Hi there

This is my coctail

Verapamil Retard 120mgX5-7/daily during cycle 3 weeks after last hit tapering down with 1 verap every 3/4 days until you are on 1 a day.1 a day for another 2 weeks you can decide to quit the verap or take 1 a day.Oxygene alone at 10ltm for 15 minutes or combined with imitrex-shots does miracles.The shots should start working in 6-9minutes.a few seconds after that you are almost painfree
Prednisolone in high doze for 10 days 80mg
then over a 3 weeks periode step down like 70-60-50-40-30-20-10-5mg every 3/4 day
This work fine for me

For the real head bangers I go straight for the Imitrex injection. Otherwise, I try the O2 first, if that doesn't work I do the imitrex. Hope that helps.

At the moment for me, I am CH free. I started off on 60mgs Prednisone and 480mgs Verapamil. I am slowly tapering off of the Prednisone, and am currently at 30mgs of it, with the same 480 of verapamil. It has worked wonders for me. But, The side effects of the prednisone are not happy side effects. Almost as bad as the CH's but worth it. No Pain now for 10 days!

Patrick, who is hoping to kick his Prednisone habit soon! ;D

thanks all as soon as i said the word C/H and told him about u guys and what i have learn'd he is now sending me to a neurolgist. I feel better already knowing someone might be able to help me stop this or at lease tame it down. :)

If you can get to the o2 at the first hint, you may not need to use the Trex. I would always try to kill it with o2 first. Most of the time it would work.

Hi tsayswhy :)

I use only O2. It has been SO effective for me since the "oxygen-man" described the right procedure on how to take it.
In this cycle I've had 37 attacks so far and the O2 made 34 of them go away within 5 - 15 minutes.

I would say it's worth a try!!!
