Title: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by 9erfan on Aug 19th, 2003, 11:46am ....the Dish?? If so, do you like it? I'm trying to decide between Direct TV & Digital Cable. The biggest draw to Direct TV is Sunday NFL Ticket. The thought of getting 13 games every weekend is enough to make my heart stop!! But I worry about the reception quality and losing signals with satelite tv. The decision is giving me a headache (there, I made it cluster-related, ok?) ???. Thanks! V. |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by JDH on Aug 19th, 2003, 12:08pm I have had Direct TV for about 2 years now after having cable for many years. The only complaint I have is that real heavy rain will knock out the picture temporarily but it always comes back in a few minutes. The main reason I like the dish is better is that it's a true digital signal as opposed to just a boosted signal for digital cable. You can tell the picture is much better than cable and the monthly price is usually cheaper. Jim |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by Elaine on Aug 19th, 2003, 12:21pm I had cable at the old house here I have direct TV now and I love it. The only time mine has been out is when we have dark clouds but like JDH said it doesn't last long. The price is about the same. |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by BruceD on Aug 19th, 2003, 12:36pm Hey 9erfan, We have DirectTV and love it. We've had it about 3 years and I can only recall 2 times where we lost reception due to heavy rain or snow. BTW, when we had it installed my wife told the installation guy that the only bad thing about it was that we don't have good local reception (via air antenna) at our house and we would be missing the Packers games. He made a phone call and set us up for the NFL Sunday Ticket for free that year ... ahhhhh football. Since that time our next door neighbor also got DirectTV and has a much bigger TV than us (and surround sound too) so we usually just watch them at their house and avoid buying the Sunday ticket. ;D Take care BruceD |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by cerebus on Aug 19th, 2003, 1:05pm DIRTECT TV BLOWS! I've had it since we moved to the new house, and I don't get local stations, So Far the pre-season games on ESPN have all been blacked out (including the bears games), and I can't afford the season ticket because its like 150$ for existing customers......go with the digital cable, you may be able to get a better rate on broadband internet connection. Ready as hell for the season....too bad I'l only get to watch foxsportsnet. Ramon |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by fubar on Aug 19th, 2003, 1:24pm Virginia, DirecTV is simply AWESOME. Out here in California you won't have any reception issues. We simply don't get the weather that knocks it out in other places. The rain has to be *real* rain, not the poor excuse for rain that we almost never get. I have had NFL ticket for years now. Worth every penny. The only problem I have is I am always at the 49ers home games (season tiks) so I miss a lot of what I pay for. Oh well. It's very cool to be able to switch to see any of the games. If you DO go for DirecTV, you should get the DirecTivo. It will change your life. I'm not kidding. CH hits in the middle of your favorite show?... *pause*. Kids need attention... *pause*. Phone?... *pause*. Commercials? Haven't watched any of that crap in years. Perfect setup = DirecTivo. -Shawn |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by Roxy on Aug 19th, 2003, 2:03pm Virginia, go for it! You'll love it. :D We've had it ever since we moved out here in the middle of nowhere. The football ticket is great. You can go for days and watch nothing but football and Sports Center..... ;D We've only had trouble with it during severe storms, and as someone said.....don't think you have to worry about that out in sunny CA. One really nice aspect of it, is that I get the east and west coast feed for the network channels. So if I'm outside working, I can watch any show I missed (or forgot to record with the Tivo) on the CA station two hours later. It's great!! |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by 9erfan on Aug 19th, 2003, 2:32pm OK, I'm sold! (Ramon, you've been out-voted.. :D) I've got to look into that Tivo. I know it's kinda pricey. Hey Fu-if you ever can't make it to a home game, I'm available to take those tickets off your hands! ;D V. |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by cootie on Aug 19th, 2003, 2:46pm You'll like Direct TV....we've had it fer years and pay thru the nose cuz of the pakcage we have but it is total entertainment ! Plus the pay per view feature is cool. It offer's local channels now to most areas and get ours thru them for a couple extra bucks a month cuz normally we get nothing down here in this valley...not even the local stuff. Ours gets knocked out alot with rain and heavy rain clouds and heavy wet snow but then our satillite sets in the woods with trees all around us on steep hills and it comes rite back on usually fast...depends down here. Pam that likes it |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by jminmilwaukee on Aug 19th, 2003, 3:31pm Dish network for three years, switched to Digi cable for one year and now on Direct TV. Digi cable sucks. Even on the digi channels there is a degradation of signal. Direct is much better than dish. Dish has shitty customer service for sure. Direct has been polite as all get out. Two thumbs up for direct. |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by Melissa on Aug 19th, 2003, 9:47pm we had it, but switched to cable because- 1. even a light rain would knock out our reception 2. no local channels 3. you have to pay extra to have more than 1 or 2 tv's connected to their service 4. they keep raising their rates 5. 899 channels with nothing on (LOL) but hey, if you got the extra money to burn, I'd say go for it... ;D |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by ClusterChuck on Aug 19th, 2003, 10:26pm This is what my company does, install dish systems. 1. If you are outside the area to get local stations, Radio Shack sells an antenna that mounts on your dish to add local stations. you need the antenna ($49.99) plus at least 2 (depending on how many receivers you have) signal diplexers ($19.99 each). Most of my customers are very happy with this system. 2. Melissa, if your signal dropped even in a light rain, I would guess that you dish is not properly aimed, or in the wrong location. Maybe a tree or bush swings into its lign of sight with little rain. 3.TiVo is fantastic. Be careful if you get more than one TiVo receiver, as they are VHF remotes, not infared. You can get cross talk between them, but there is an option to change each remote's channel to eliminate this. Keep ordering! This helps my business! ha ha ! Chuck |

Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by Drk^Angel on Aug 19th, 2003, 10:36pm I want DirecTV!!! But my wife won't let me order it... She wants us to get cable, but it costs like twice as much for regular, and 3x as much for digital... So all we've got is broadcast TV... 4 whole channels! And two of 'em are PBS... W00H00!!! Title: Re: NON-CH-Does anyone out there have Direct TV? Post by BobG on Aug 20th, 2003, 2:56am At my job we have DISH. Works fine. About 400 channels of nothing watchable. I have cable (Cox) at home. 72 channels of nothing watchable. But had 3 TV's in 3 different rooms connected for the price of one plus an always-on, always-connected computer hookup. |
