Title: Re-Bound Headaches
Post by STABBINGPAIN on Aug 17th, 2003, 6:09pm
I'm curious  if anyone  out there gets lots of rebound headaches?.  I know I do and  I think sometimes they're  worse .  I'm willing to try something else. I'm allergic to all the triptan drugs. Ive tried the nasal sprays . I havent found anything to work or at least to buffer all this freakin pain. The doc keeps giving me stuff  that makes me feel high but doesnt help the head at all. actually ,after I come down off them I get the MOTHER OF ALL MOTHER'S brain pounders and I'm so sick to my stomache. I  find it hard to take care of my 8 month old. If I dont take something I feel like I'm gonna die.  Does anyone out there get the same thing or similar effects from thier meds?   I like to hear from ya please...

Hello Stabbingpain...I haven't welcomed you yet as you look to be new here...so welcome and sorry you must be here. I personally don't get re-bounds because the triptans worked for me but I was wondering if you are on or have tried any preventative medications. If not, go to the OUCH site (button on left) and go to Cluster Help then medications. That will give you a rundown on what's avail. I'm sure you will get some others who can answer the re-bound question for you.

Hello StabbingPain,

yes I sometimes get rebounds after a medium attack and the rebound is always worse than the starting one. relpax helps to make it less painful, but doesn't work for all attacks. I read you don't like all the heavy meds, try going to an iris-doctor? he can give you some natural stuff that might help. Hope you'll do better soon, best of luck to you...

If you haven't tried oxygen therapy yet then drop what you're doing and go to this link http://www.maplefallswebdesign.com/misc/oxygen/oxygen.htm
Read all there is and then go talk to your doc about it.
A whole lot of people here, including myself,  have gotten relief with o2. It's clean (no rebounds), ,safe and fairly cheap. Look into it...go now!

hi stabbingpain,
I had the same prob, all the drugs made me unable to function, plus the re-bounds, in the end i stopped it, downside is lots of painkillers instead, are you chronic or episodic?

at the moment my head is starting to bang pretty good and i know it wont be long till im sick to my stomache . I think most of the re-bounds are caused bc i take so many pills and lord knows I probably have liver damage from popping motrin  800 like candy and  brain damage from headaches.TNT>explosions. :o ???.. the food diary doesnt help .it tells me i hurt all the time . oh my! I need brain relief NOW!

at the moment im taking all these pills(NOT ALL AT ONCE) depends on the pain...
1. motrin 800
2. percocet
3.hydrocodone/apap
4.ultrams
5.butalbital
6.naproxen
7.pre-natal vits
8.lipitor- high cholesterol
9.migrainal nose spray
10.benedril
11 caffine treatments to see if they help.nothing but gitters with this and makes them worse and intensifies the pain in the head so far

My experience is that OTC and narcotics do very litte to help my CH, and I suffer the undesireable side effects you describe. Allergic to triptans? I am sorry. O2 O2 O2........

Hello I am new to this site but have been getting my regular visits from the cluster fairy for 17 yrs now.  I have a problem with rebound headaches too and the only relief I get is using the oxygen and taking the hottest showers my head can stand.  I put the water on pulsating and keep turning the water hotter and hotter on the back of my head.  I figure sooner or later the brain is going to send the message to pain center to diliate the blood vessels to cool itself down.  I only get very limited supplies of imitrex due to insurance so each one is like gold and I usually go through the above process first just to make sure it isnt a rebound or a weak cluster so I am not wasting the imitrex.  I hope it works for you.

JUST A THOUGHT ....
I WENT TO THE DENTIST YESTERDAY AND ASKED IF IT'S POSSIBLE IT GET ANY KIND HEADACHE.. HE SAID YES. IF YOU HAVENT SEEN A DENTIST IN A WHILE AND LET YOUR TEETH GO AND HAVE LOTS OF DECAY AND BACTERIAL BUILD UP IT SPREADS . IT COULD INFECT THE NERVES IN OUR MOUTH AND SPREAD INTO OUR SYSTEM AND CAN EFFECT US. I THOUGHT ABOUT IT FOR A MOMENT AND WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE WITH CH... HAVE DENTAL INSURANCE AND DO REGULAR CHECK UPS? COULD THIS BE A PERCENTAGE OF US GETTING THROBBING PAIN IN THE HEAD? I'M NOT SURE BUT IT SOUNDS GOOD. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK...
