Post by daveengland on Aug 17th, 2003, 2:13pm
today has been 4/5 all day,its got worse so i'm on the 02.
just been thinking back to before i got diagnosed,i was convinced it was all dental pain, one day i got hit at work, about 9am,the pain was right up there,i was convinced that if i could get the tooth out the pressure would go

i took out my penknife, slipped it down the front of the offending tooth, twisted up,and VOILA!!

half a tooth,a mouth full of blood and akiller HA
abcess the following morning, rest of tooth out three days later  under anaesthetic.when i came round i was in the middle of an HA.

i have really questioned my own sanity until i found you guys

i know its a bit gory, but has any body else been that desperate?

PFDAN's wished for all

The only other person I know who does their own dentistry is my mother....She says she doesn't need a Dentist to pull her teeth out when she can do it just fine by herself.  All her steriod meds for her asthma has weakened her teeth.

As to doing things really stupid during an attack...I prefer not to go there.  ;)

Oh my God... I thought I was the only one THAT stupid.

When I was 14, and still had 8 baby teeth, as well as their adult replacement teeth (two rows of teeth, not a good look for a 14 year old), the dentist told me he had to pull them.  All 8 of them.  I was terrified.  The appointment was 1 week away, so when I got home I started extracting them myself, one by one.  With a combination of self inflicted punches to the mouth, and heavy-duty wrangling with various tools from the garage and kitchen, I was able to transform my mouth into a bloody mess of hamburger, minus 4 teeth.

The dentist was not amused.  In fact, he delayed pulling the other 4 to let my mouth and lips (swollen from the constant punching) heal a bit before pulling the other 4.

i ended up having four teeth taken out and would
probably gladly have had them all out so
convinced was i that it was teeth pain, like INthe gums and jaw too

i was about to go to an ENT surgeon to have my sinuses scraped, when i read about this weird headache that only affected one side of the head, and all the other
symptoms

i had a consultant telling me it waspsychological and
too take antidepressants and buprenorphine injections

i really thought i was going mad!!!!
i only found out about CH's 3 months ago

I had a wisdom tooth that was killing me on a Saturday night (after drinking a 12-pack of Miller). Thought about pulling it out. Had another beer. Decided to pull it out. Got another beer. Wrapped some dental floss around it and pulled. Broke the damn dental floss... tooth didn't budge but hurt worse then. Grabbed another beer. Doubled the dental floss and tied it on again... pulled the tooth out. Spit some blood and shoved a chunk of gauze in my mouth. It felt much better getting the bad tooth out. Grabbed another beer.

"Have I ever done anything really stupid?"

Funny you should ask. On another forum that I also mostly lurk and occasionally post on [one for folks who like to go camping with popup campers] I posted a tale of classic stupidity about marshmallows and how I got a new nickname. Plenty of folks chipped in to let me know I not the only dimbulb in the box.  ;D

For those with lots of time and who enjoy laughing at the human creature, click the link below for my story (the one below) and about 20 others. For those with perhaps less time, my tale of "OMG" is below the link.

"Me & Marshmallows"

Okay, my wife and I have had this thing with marshmallows and camping. She always plans to roast marshmallows when we camp but something always seems to go wrong ... the marshmallows don't get packed, they got packed but melted together sitting in the back seat, it rained the whole weekend, couldn't find suitable sticks to put 'em on, yadda yadda yadda.

IMHO, it's somehow a blessing because as a kid I had a bad experience with roasted marshmallows and getting my tongue burned ... but I knew my wife loved 'em and I wanted her to have her fun regardless. Dr. Freud would likely point his finger at me as to the "why" the marshmallows thing never happens when we go camping.

Anyway, our last trip we not only remembered them, we even bought some fancy stainless steel hotdog/marshmellow skewers to add to the gear in our PU. The 3rd night out the weather is right and after dinner we bust out the 'mallows and begin the Holy Camping Ritual. So we roast a couple, getting them just right (slightly browned NOT burnt/flaming, soft and gooey inside). Very carefully, I have one ... then another [hey, no burnt tongue!], then I eat my fill. Just then ... the dwizzles hit me! After I pulled the last marshmallow off the skewer and carefully bite-sized it, I notice there's still some stuck to the skewer ... so I just licked it off! Yep, I just put the skewer into my mouth, closed my mouth and let my lips clean off the skewer. "OW OW OW!!"  For some reason I'm surprised when the skewer is still really Really HOT! It was a two-prong skewer and I got small burns on both lips where the skewer got me. Thankfully, I was more embarrassed than burnt (well, sort of, the male ego can be pretty fragile at times, lol). But I tell my DW that next time we roast marshmallows she has to call me by my new nickname ...

"Hey, Hot Lips! Don't forget, no sucking on hot skewers!"

My excuse? We were camping in the Rocky Mountains so I blamed it on the altitude ... yeah, that's the ticket ... the altitude ... at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Really stupid? Well...

during a very bad night couple op years ago i was sitting on my knees in my bedroom, rocking bak and forth against the wall, pushing my head into the wooden plates. The attack got worse and worse until I had such a bad wave I pounded my head straight into the wall... resulting in a big crack and a hole in the middle of my room  ::)

This silent memory hole was there for days, exposing my pain AND stupidity... Breaking the wall didn't stop the pain. Got a big bump on my head though. I covered it with a long poster, but the wall is not as strong as it was before it met my cluster anymore  8)

PFDAN to all,

painful Murazza

Among the many stupid things. I was pacing the weather deck with a kip 9 after it was over I felt exhausted and relieved. I rested my forehead against the steel net reel gantry.
It was -10 F that day.
