Title: Re: New cluster poll... Post by Georgia on Aug 16th, 2003, 9:45pm Ree - No signs yet in my parents. They are in their 50's still. My maternal grandmother was diagnosed with it, although after we took her to a neuro, the diagnosis was changed to PICS disease (I am not sure about the spelling of it)...which is basically frontal lobe dimentia. Harvard Research contacted my mom and asked to have my grandmother's brain sent to them after she died. My mother obliged and after they dissected it, they said there was no sign of PICS and there was advanced alzheimers (stage 4) instead. We still think they made a mistake though. As far as we were concerned, she did not have alzheimers. She knew who everyone was, where she was, what was going on, how much she paid the paper boy, everything about her past....she remembered everything like that. She had problems with social issues...for example, I took her to a dr's appt...he started listening to her heart...she shrieked that he was "just trying to touch my tits" and proceeded to rip her gown off as she screamed "you wanna see my tits? here!! get a good look!!" We had to put her in an adult home, where she was threatened of being expelled more than once for walking around buck naked (and when someone said something to her, she would say.."I am not naked. I am wearing my watch. Shit for brains.") That kinda thing makes us think it was not alzheimers. So my answer is....maybe my grandma. You may want to include grandparents in your question? I dunno. Sorry...wish I coulda said a simple yes or no. Sorry to hear about Dave's Mom too. That's a tough thing to deal with. We are here for both of you. Peace and love, Georgia |

Title: Re: New cluster poll... Post by Major_Headcase on Aug 17th, 2003, 11:59pm My mother, now 90, has suffered from Alzheimer's the last couple of years ... only our family didn't cop to it until about a year ago when she broke her hip and the facts had to be faced, it's pretty easy to go into denial about - especially with one's parents. My mom never had CH or migraines that I know of. Dad died some 25 years ago of a cerebral aneurysm. Ree, It's tough ... really tough. My sincere sympathy to you and Dave on his mother's diagnosis, I know how heartbreaking it can be for the relatives and friends of the person suffering with Alzheimers. There are meds available that can slow the progression ... but it is a damned undignified disease, and imho it robs the soul worse than the Beast. My heart goes out to you both. :( -John |
