Title: i'm gettin' admitted on Monday..... Post by 2late on Aug 14th, 2003, 4:11pm my neuro is admitting me for 3-day's of intervenous treatment's to try to break this cycle. not sure what i'll be treated with, but i'll find out tomarrow. anyone have experience with this? this cycle for me has been the worst in 5 year's, changing med's recently has only aggrivated my condition. steroids is my only relief latley. thanx & any input would be appreciated. the reason for Monday admittance is the wife started a new job & she works friday & sat. nite. thanx to all! ...............Jack |

DHE helps me everytime...for a short time. I go in and get it quite often. Just make sure that you get Phenegren too or you're gonna be sick :'( Goodluck !! |

Occasional shadows occasional hit. That cycle was also my worst in 26 years of this shit. Lasted 9 months, hit day and night, all in the Kip 8-10 range. Got to where I was unsure of what day it was and weather it was night or day. My stay was just 2 days. IV DHE and benedryll I believe. You'll be hooked up to a heart monitor and they will probably start you off with a demerol or morphine injection if you are in pain. The benedryll will keep you nice and sleepy while your there. 2 benefits to that. (1) You get some much needed sleep and (2) the hospital stay is over quickly. Lay back, enjoy the PF time and sleep. When my next cycle hits I will request that my neuro admit me at the very beginning this time. |

Day 1....Imitrex shot, Dilaudid shot, hooked me up to a steroid drip. Everytime I got a cluster I first got oxygen and then a dilaudid shot & imitrex. Day 2...continued steroid drip. everything pretty much like day 1. If O2 did not help got dilaudid & imitrex. Day3...Discontinued dilaudid but continued imitrex & O2. Steroid drip ended. They hooked me up to a DHE Drip. Day4...Continued DHE Drip...imitrex & o2. Clusters are definitely diminished. Day 5...Discharged with regular meds...Verapamil, OxyIR, & Imitrex...Cycle diminishing & ended about 2 weeks later. Enjoy... Jim |

It is another vasoconstrictor. You cannot ( better not ) get this within 24 hours of Imitrex ( it's double dipping and will quickly raise your BP ). First day in the hospital should be to get the Imitrex out of your system. Morphine, Stadol, or Demerol should be used for pain instead of the Imitrex. You may want to consider using Phenegren pills about 30 minutes before each dose of DHE ( after a few doses of Phenegren thru an IV , it will start to hurt or burn ). I never was hooked up to any heart monitors while on this med. You can only have a certain number of doses of DHE in a certain amount of time...1 dose every 8 hours for 3 days. Late in the 2nd day, you might watch for whiteness in the toes or fingers due to lack of blood. If this happens, inform your doc and stop the meds. It's really not as bad as it sounds. Personally, I love the break from the terrible headaches and if you've never had it, it's definately worth a try !! Goodluck !! |

BTW, have you ever taken ergostat....a little pill you put under your tonge...it was really popular before imitrex came out. That's basically what DHE is except in IV form. It actually comes in a nasal spray too. DHE does make you extremely nauseated so an antinausea medicine is a must. Take Care, Karen |
