Title: Cat Tales
Post by Carla_Comiter on Aug 9th, 2003, 1:21am
Since I'm getting ta know youse guys (cantcha tell?) I see I have found a family of cat lovers.  The most amazing thing happened today with my cat, whose picture I would include, but I still don't know how.  If someone can give me instructions, I'd be verrrrry grateful!

But, meanwhile back to the story....

One of my two cats is a small brown striped/mottled yellow short haired tabby.  She showed up at my door two years ago and I named her Stormie because she looks like a storm cloud.  I had thought about naming her Cloudy or Dusty or Smoky, but I liked Stormie better.

One of my friends, Cindy, is an animal communicator--professionally trained and trying to make a career out of it.  She checks in with my pets every time she visits and lets me know what's up.

She came over about 3 weeks ago and told me that Stormie wanted to be named Smoky.  Well, that's a fine how do you do, isn't it?  Though both Cindy and I had trouble remembering Stormie's name, and I had called her Smoky in error a few times.  But I wasn't really willing to change her name.

However, she was in my bed this morning and while I was petting her, I told her that if she really wanted to be called Smoky, she should let me know.  I told her that I like Stormie better, but would honor her decision.

OK, now for the punchline.  A couple of hours later, another friend, Kathy, came over (she knew none of the history of this story).  She walked into the kitchen and immediately asked, "How's Smoky?"

Betcha can guess what I now call my cat.

I called Cindy later and while I was telling her about the incident and that I was changing Stormie's name, the cat came over and lay on me, smiling and purring--not her normal approach to affection.

Now, I know that some of you will scoff, and that's OK.  But I know many of you will be able to relate--especially Georgia and Roxy.

So, nitey nite from Carla and Smoky
(and from Midas, Yoda and Chelsea Blue--at least that's what they are letting me call them today!)

or
When they they pace at thee door at 5:47 AM crying "raaaalph". The little blessed shoe targets.
or
when ya offer em a piece of delicious fare from the table and they kinda sniff and lick and seem unconcerned as I hold me dog back from stealin the morsel in one gulp...truely showin some appreciation for the gift.

Hey, now, Big D!!! Cats only drool when they're purring and providing us with unconditional love- we once had a Newfie pup.......THAT drool was constant, and indiscriminant....kinda like a river overflowing- I thought we were gonna have to turn him in to our Homeowner's Ins for damage!!  I checked with Chrissie and Buddy and Camry and Pepper and Phantom(who was too busy cleaning his ahem, umm nether regions to communicate with me) and they are all in agreeement- they like their names!
Cats do communicate.......they just don't mind very well....
Cathi- who loves her cats...and will never have 5 at one time again(see de'ns cat box comment).

Carla -

That is such a beautiful story. Cats are amazing that way. I believe, without a doubt, that they have pure magic. I really respect you for listening to Smokey. I treat and talk to my cats like the mystical, magical, intelligent creatures that they are (well mostly, I am also their momma who worries WAY too much about them.)

My Blue has incredible magic...I locked her in the dining room once to keep her away from the repair men in the bathroom that had all kinds of chemicals out, etc. She was not very happy with me. I explained it to her and she was so insulted that I would think her so stupid as to get anywhere near the danger. She looked at me with an arrogant look, and looked at the 12 foot high latched, closed door. The door opened. She walked out of the room, turned back to say, "ha!" and the door closed and latched behind her. I try to respect her decisions more now.

And my little Sebastian....what can I say about my little Bastian? He is so precious and funny as all get out!! I really do think though that he is the reincarnate of my Sabu. Sabu died early this year after a long, hard battle. Right around Christmas he injested some kind of toxin...we still don't know what. He came very close to death. We rushed him to the vet where he stayed for 5 days. He came home blind, unable to eat or drink, he could hardly walk or stand, he deficated on himself. It broke my heart everytime I looked at him. He had always been such a loving, sweet, playful kitty. I fed him with a syringe for two months. The vet said only time would tell if he would get better. He didn't though...he continued to decline and eventaully died. I was heartbroken, and wracked with guilt. My husband (Rumplestiltskin -who pretends to be such a hard ass about kitties) gave him a beautiful burial....we played his favorite songs, and buried him in his "hunting grounds", hubby planted flowers that are still blooming. We planted a weeping willow tree over him and placed an angel statue there in his honor.

Anyway - back to Sebastian. I was driving home from work this May and saw a little kitten in the middle of the road. All the cars were slowing and swerving and I just could not bare the thought of him getting hit. I stopped my car and scooped him up. He is a part of our family now. He picked up right where Sabu left off - playing constantly with our dog - being the lovey, playful kittie he is. I have always thought that cats have such distinct personalities, and Sebastian is so much like Sabu, it's almost eerie. I consider this my second chance with Sabu and I can only pray it turns out better this time.

Anyway - thanks for sharing your story. It was really touching. I have to go kill my husband now.

Peace and love and cosmic kitties,
Georgia

Of Course Dogs RULE, JDH!  Just ask my Papillon Yoda (or King Yoda as he prefers to be called).  He is the uncontested ruler of the household.  Funny thing is that neither cat has taken the time to contest his self-appointed leadership.   Could they be humoring him?

Hmmmm....

To post a picture in a message:

the pics need to be on the internet somewhere....

if they already are, or you have your own webite to upload them to, then while you are posting your message,  click on the little icon of the picture (insert image) and this: "img]URL[/img" will appear. Erase "URL" and type in (or paste) the address of your pic in its place. Click the preview button to make sure it worked. Viola!

if they aren't already on the internet....go here:
http://photoshop.superdownloads.net/ and upload them for free. Then go through the above process.

Now - to change your icon, if you want to:
Same kinda thing...the gif or pic has to be on the internet. You can use your own pictures, or save gifs that you have found and then upload them to the site I inked you to above. Go to your "profile" and check the box that says "I have my own pic" and enter the URL in the space next to it.

If you want to use this one as your icon, copy and paste this link in to your profile as directed above:

Here's a smooch for you, Sweet Georgia!

Look what I did.  I feel like saying "Momma made Shake and Bake, and Ah helped!"

Anytime you (or any other CHead) want coffee, just come to Raytown.  I will grind the beans, brew the java, add dolce leche and a dollop of Cool Whip.

Then we'll do a couple of spreads, throw the sticks and pick a rune.  We'll take the future by the throat and shake it til it spills its guts...  'Scuse me, I just cracked myself up.

Thanks again for the kitty icons, Georgia.

PS How did the husband killing go?

Love,

Carla

Your kitty looks really cute. You done good, girl.

I am on my way to MO. I have no frickin clue where it is though. Somewhere in the middle. Ever consider coming to Texas? It's really....well, it's uh....it's Texas. What more do ya want?

I decided not to kill my husband. He is too adorable. And sexy. And hot. And beautiful. And cute. And edible. And yummy. And sittin on the couch all by his lonesome, shirt off. And....I need to go now. ;)

Peace and love,
Georgia

Cats are cool, dogs are cool.  But, why not have BOTH?  My cat-dog is really cool.  He takes a shower with me everyday.  He fetches.  He hasn't learned 'stay' yet, but no self-respecting cat would.  This cat is probably the reason I'm still alive... they are magic.

Wow Fu!! That is a beautifl cat! My Sabu used to love playing in the water too. Little shit. I tried training him when I first got him with a squirt gun...he would just run at the stream of water, tongue lapping. And whenever I showered or bathed, he had to be right there, on the edge of the tub with me. When I would take a bath, he would try to lay on my chest without getting too awfully wet. I miss him. :(

Thanks for sharing that picture Fu.

So many comments, so little time (only 6-7 hours til I fall asleep, after all!)

Fubar, your cat-dog looks JUST like Smoky, the cat formerly known as Stormie.  What's her name?  She actually showers with you?

By the way, all, I have two cats AND two dogs.  I just love a big family!

Linda, Xena was a major persona for me for several years.  But I found that she was scarey to men, so I'm repressing her these days.   8)

And Georgia on my mind, you can get to Raytown one of these ways:  I45 to Dallas, I35 to Kansas City, I70 to Raytown.  All Interstate, but not direct.

Or you could take US59 to Texarkana, then US71 to KC, then I435 to Raytown.  Slower, but fewer miles.

Or you could fly.

I'm having a Tarot/astrology luncheon party this Wednesday.  Just a few women and a few decks of cards.  We should be starting around 12:30, join us.

Annnnd, I can comfortably sleep 5-10 guests, depending on whether you double up (bring hubby).  This goes for other members of our CH family, when in KC, stay with Carla.  I truly love houseguests.

Full moon tonight.  I have a tent in my backyard, plan to sleep in it as soon as I can go outside without getting sick.  Would like to tonight, but so damned tired, don't want to push myself to set up camp.

Love to all and BFN

Carla

Oh Carla....

Now I am sad. I looked on Yahoo and it said you are 766 miles and 12 hours away. But I wanna be at the party on Wednesday.  I am trying to talk Den into a roadtrip...but I don't think he is going for it. I will buy a whole lotta scratch-offs tomorrow and if I win lots of money...meet me at the airport!

Otherwise, have fun with your luncheon.

You are always welcome here as well!

Thanks for the comments on my little buddie.  And Pam, you are right on the money... Bengal.  He's an F3 (third gen) but he is the sweetest, most laid-back relaxed cat I've ever had.  Normally, the Bengal cats that are that 'wild' are a bit skittish.  This cat will HOWL if you don't let him in the shower, and believe me, they can make some noise.

Here's another beauty-shot...
