Title: Metallica and the Beast Post by ozzman on Aug 6th, 2003, 9:59am I ve been listening to their new album non stop for the last few weeks and whenever I listen to this I get chills, It's right on. A conversatition between me and the beast. Here it is: Song: Shoot Me Again Album: St. Anger Lyrics: I won't go away Right here I'll stay Stand silent in flames Stand tall 'till it fades Shoot me again I ain't dead yet Shoot me again All the shots I take I spit back at you All the shit you Comes back to haunt you All the shots All the shots I take What difference did I make? All the shots I take I spit back at you I won't go away, with a bullet in my back Right here I'll stay, with a bullet in my back Shoot me Take a shot I'll stand on my own, with a bullet in my back I'm stranded and sold, with a bullet in my back I bite my tongue Trying not to shoot back No compromise My heart won't pump the other way Wake the sleeping giant Wake the beast Wake the sleeping dog No, let him sleep Minor editing crossed out. Enjoy Ozzy |

Title: Re: Metallica and the Beast Post by ozzman on Aug 6th, 2003, 10:07am Hey Dan, Never been a big fan of anything after hummm ... Justice... Ok maybe a couple from the black album. Then Anger came out. They have reinvented themselves. Hard, fast, angry (my 3 year old daughter loves it LOL) The CD comes with an added separate DVD, all for the price of $11. Not bad. Ozzy |

I've heard a couple of tracks and I will say they sound a LOT different. I have (and like) everything they've put out to date (except that symphony crap) but have been debating on whether this one was worth adding. Wtf Oz, I'll probably stop @ Best Buy tonight and pick it up on your review. Thanks, Jim |

Title: Re: Metallica and the Beast Post by eyes_afire on Aug 6th, 2003, 5:13pm There hasn't been a helluva lot of good sonic art coming out in the year 2003, but today I have just heard the best aggressive album of the year: Lamb of God - As The Palaces Burn 2003 *sniff sniff :'(, sigh* reminds me of the good ole days of mid-years Slayer... especially that first track. Absolutely Lethal! Now when's that next Arch Enemy album coming out....? --- Steve |

Title: Frantic-tick tick tick tick tick tock Post by Carl_D on Aug 7th, 2003, 12:21am The song I share the most sentiment of by Metallica is on "Ride The Lightning" - "Fade To Black." "Shoot Me Again," "Invisible Kid" and "St Anger" are great songs - but the production and sound of this album had me screaming "Bob Rock? Why in the fuck do all of us try to get rid of that annoying as hell snare ringing, and you masterfully made it ring hideously louder? This production quality sucks! If Metallica wanted to re-capture thier musical youth, they should have booted your sorry rich-pop-ass out the door and gave good 'ole Fleming Rasmussen a call." That is what I think of the new Metallica; and yes I AM a music critic. Then again, every musician earns the right to be a critic. I should know; I am my own worse critic especially with my new band "Act of God." I have to give these bozos I work with a kick in the pants every now and then too. Right now I am stuck on listening to the new Mary Manson disc, The Golden Age of Grotesque, until the new CD from A Perfect Circle ships next month. Critue with an attitude, Carl D "FREEK" P.S. - The first Chevelle CD is awesome too. It is called "Point #1" for all you fans of "Wonder What's Next." |

Title: Re: Metallica and the Beast Post by Big_Dan on Aug 7th, 2003, 8:14am Perfect Circle has a new album comming out huh?... ... I like the group... but I feel like it's just Tool 2.... :-/ ... speaking of tool, they need to get back to making some good music, instead of this sound effects crap for 3 or 4 tracks at a time... -Big Dan |

Title: Re: Metallica and the Beast Post by Carl_D on Aug 7th, 2003, 8:51am APC Tool part II? Yes and no. Billy Howerdell, who formed A Perfect Circle is Adam Jones of Tools guitar tech. He origionally wanted a female singer for "A Perfect Circle", but said Maynard was feminine enough to fit the bill. LOL. Tool is more heavy, dark, trippy and forboding. A Perfect Circle is more melodic and emotional. "3 Libras" is one of my all time faves. I relate to it sooooo much. Dammit! I am sitting here online in the studio by myself until 5pm when Doc and Mike gets here and we get back to working on tunes. Doing band pics today too. Gopt a nifty outift I am gonna wear. So what am I listening to? hehehehehehehehe New Metallica is cranking through the pa. I don't hate the album, just some of the production values. I am in love with both "St Anger" and "Invisible Kid." In a little while, I have to listen to our shit and write out a gameplan for when the boys get here so were not winding our asses and scratching our watches wondering what the hell we are doing. What do you get when you have 3 musicians with ADD? "Act of God" Peace, Carl D "Freek" |

Title: Re: Metallica and the Beast Post by ozzman on Aug 7th, 2003, 9:14am Carl, So how would you describe your music? Is it dark, heavy, freight train wall of sound? All of the above? Ozzy |

Title: Re: Metallica and the Beast Post by Carl_D on Aug 7th, 2003, 9:35am Check out some of my solo stuff I did by myself and judge for yourself. Mp3.com/former I am told that stuff is in the same vein as Manson, Megadeth, and Ozzy. Pretty heavy stuff. Our new band "Act of God" has a couple of mellow tunes, but leaning more towards hard alternative. We don't sound like anyone else, which is good. Our first e.p. is entitled "Dopesick Girl" about one of our ex drummers ate up girlfriend. We are doing a Balck Sabbath double cover for the e.p. - a harder edged version of two songs that will run together. "Never Say Die / Sabbath Bloody Sabbath." Right after the bridge of "Never Say Die" it will kick straight into "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath." We are using 7 string guitars with that rumbling low B string tuned down to low A, and I'll be kicking some double bass on it too. I like the little ditty of the "Dopesick Girl." "All the other girls want apislies and doilies, but all she wants is flames and foilies and a steady stream of smoke in her eyes. I can just imagine all the dread, that must be swimming in her head when her stash is gone and she has to get high (oh and why?) And I swear there's nothing sadder in the world, than the sight of a dopesick girl Ya know the only time I ever see her happy, is when she blows out a hit and she's petting buggy And she's got a freshly fucked smile on her face Another ten minutes and she's a feenin', she starts a droolin' and her eyes start a gleaming Then she's moments away from tearing up the place (for just a taste) And I swear there's nothing sadder in the world, than the sight of a dopesick girl All the other girls want ribbons and bows, but all she wants is candy in her nose And she'll do anything and everything for it She took my car stereo and my color TV, my money, my smoke and my favorite CD's All without a hint of regret (the little clit) And I swear there's nothing sadder in the world, than the sight of a dopesick girl" One of our less-serious songs that everybody loves. The ballad-ish song everybody loves is called "Epiphany" It is our mellowest tune: "Don't cry for me. Don't waste your precious tears Don't lose no sleep, it just hurries the years Don't hang your head in shame, you did all you could You'll never know this, but you changed my whole world. Something I saw pulled my head out of the haze A glimpse of purest light and of darkest days The clouds have lifted and there's clear skies above If only you could see what has become, become Don't cry for me. All's fair in love and war No need to worry, that's not what this life is for There is no reason, to ask the question 'why' It's just because, we cannot see the light Something I saw pulled my head out of the haze A glimpse of purest light and of darkest days The clouds have lifted and the sight is beyond me I've never been so alive, so free Beyond this existence, this shape of time We fly....we fly Something I saw pulled my head out of the haze A glimpse of purest light and of darkest days" Well, that's a sample of some of my lyrics. I wrote "Epiphany" at a time when my head didn't hurt as bad as it does now. Was a brief breath of fresh air for me. Hoping another one comes round very soon, for myself and others. Peace, "FREEK" Daniels |

Title: Re: Metallica and the Beast Post by Carl_D on Aug 7th, 2003, 9:37am Grrrrr "Paislies and doilies..." I gotta stop hitting "post" before I re-read and try and squish the typos. The puter I am using down here has a shitty keyboard. I hate it. Grrrrrr |

Title: Re: Metallica and the Beast Post by ozzman on Aug 7th, 2003, 9:46am I figures it was paislies.... ;D Not bad. Listening to " The world Behind" sounds like a cross of Type O' Negative and Ozzy. Like I said. Not bad. Congrats dude. Ozzy |

Title: Re: Metallica and the Beast Post by ozzman on Aug 7th, 2003, 10:18am Ok, last one I promise... Carl I like " The world behind" the best. The other two are straight 80's metal. Not hairband metal, but late 80's. ...well I actually like the dark part in "Fail You" I guess Fail You is a combination of the two styles. I even hear some White Zombie influences. I love the progressions at the end of Fail You (progressive like Dream Theater, Fates Warning). The first part in Fail you, with the whiney guitars remind me of Death Angel... Ok, enough balh, blah, blah... Ozzy |
