Title: the year of the cluster headaches Post by tool8162002 on Aug 2nd, 2003, 12:14pm well guys... once again, its the same person, with a different name.... I nearly had a cluster headache trying to figure out my old user names password.. Finally, I made a new name, and a new password.. Hopefully i will remember.. :) Well.. Its Bob.. Bob Baker.. Not sure how many of you remember me.. But I'm the son of a cluster head. I was posting many times a day at this board when my father was going through his last cycle.. Thanks to the kind help of pink shark, monique, and the rest of you fine folks, our family made it through the last cycle.. Which seemed to be the worst ever.. Well my father has been living pain free since then.... Thats the good news.. But the bad news is, typically this is the year his next cycle will come.. He ussually has the clusters for 3 months, every 2 years..... Hopefully they dont come back this year, but we are preparing for the worst... What can we do to prevent this up coming cluster?? Any advice is appreciated.. Hopefully they dont come, but like i said, we are preparing for the worst.. thanks bob |

Title: Re: the year of the cluster headaches Post by Jackie on Aug 2nd, 2003, 12:27pm Hi Bob..... Yes, I remember you....the young man so intent on finding help for his Dad :) It's nice to hear that your Dad has had pain free time....that is always a true gift!!! As to how or what can be done to prevent another cycle...well, that is the million dollar question. Do you see signs of it coming or is it just "that" time? I don't remember all the history here....was your Dad taking any prevent meds? It could be time to get on Verapamil or some prevent med....just a thought. Good Luck.... Jacks 8) |

Title: Re: the year of the cluster headaches Post by Prense on Aug 2nd, 2003, 12:35pm Yeah, definately don't wait till they hit to start the prevents...I wasn't around last time you were here Bob, so nice to meet you. I hope you guys were able to find something that worked for the last cycle, but from what I have researched here and on the OUCH site the right preventatives are the keys to duration and intensity of the upcoming cycle. Normally, the sufferer can tell when the beast is coming...although, when those sign show, it may be too late to "start" the preventatives. I wouldn't know as a chronic. Best of luck to you Bob. There are no signs so far... but its that time... ussually when the cold weather hits is when he gets his cycle... He has taken verapamil and immitrex and oxygen with no avail.. The imitrex shortened the headaches, but didn't prevent them... His cycle ended when we were given shrooms.. after 2 doses, his cycle ended.. thank god.. we are probably going to try that method again..I'll keep you guys updated |
