Title: Blessings
Post by oldsurfref on Aug 1st, 2003, 11:13pm
Wow. Some of the posts on this site are pretty rough. I thought pain grows compassion, but I guess with the wrong spirit it can grow anger. So I figured I would share my blessings with you guys.
Today I went surfing and met John. He was in a car accident 25 years ago, and is paralyzed from the chest down. He still surfs although he can only cruise on his belly and he has to beg people at the beach to help him in and out of the water. He still smiles and has the aloha spirit in and out of the water. I am blessed to be able to surf with my sons. I am blessed to be able to hug my wife, my daughter and my sons. I am blessed that my wife of 21 years who has seen me look insane for these last 15+ while im in the Clusters still loves me and sticks by me. I am blessed that the CHs go away for a year or so. I am blessed that they only last a couple of months. I am blessed that the pain only lasts a couple of hours. I am blessed that Imitrex and Verapamil shorten the time and the pain. I am blessed that its not 150 years ago, and I am talking to you all in an insane asylum.  I am truly blessed.

... I agree we're all blessed... while still being cursed with this beast....

... we may have disagreements with each other.. but in the end... we're all in the same boat, rowing away...

... although some of us try to slap others with our oars... ;D

The family fights, oh boy do they fight!  But when push comes to shove, even the worst of enemies on here have come together to help.

Like any family, sibling rivalry is abound.  I can pick on you, and you can pick on me, but heaven help the poor sumbitch that doesn't have CH and picks on anyone here.

It's life, it's CH life.  Take what ya need and leave the rest.

You see, we know each other pretty well and just when and how to push one another's buttons. Some of it is deserved such as quacks and cranks. The rest of it is fun or just exercise for us.

You'll find that the minute some help is required, we're all over them with ideas, as Robin Williams says: like shit on Velcro.

Thanks for your story and glad to have you.

Charlie
