Title: Try it......might just help! Post by Jackie on Aug 1st, 2003, 7:38pm This should probably be on the meds. board but I want to make sure you all see it.....especially the newbies..... My hubby, Blake, is a chronic. :'( He's been getting hit at night..nothing unusual in that. He has limited success with the script meds. and has had no success with the home remedies......until now (we hope). Last night I handed him a Dramamine and said TAKE IT....he humored me and swallowed it along with his usual handful of prevent meds....which haven't been working well at all. To make a long story short(er) he got 10 hours of uninterruped sleep. :D We are giving the Dramamine credit........for now. If you all haven't taken Dramamine it might be worth a try...can't hurt... :) Jacks 8) |

Title: Re: Try it......might just help! Post by Jimi on Aug 1st, 2003, 7:46pm Hi Jacks, I got your email. Still in remission. The longest remission ever. I am glad to hear Dramamine worked for him. I believe it was Margi that used to swear by it. I tried it, but all it did for me was make the cluster already a 7 before I came awake. Sure helped me go right back to sleep though when it was over. Caught myself dozing off with the mask still on a couple of times. But 10 hours of uninterupted sleep is a godsend when you have them nightly. Hope it continues to work. :) |

Title: Re: Try it......might just help! Post by Jackie on Aug 1st, 2003, 7:55pm Wonderful to hear about your long remission, Jimi....I'm thinking you've outgrown/outrun the beast... :) I was hoping that since Dramamine is suppose to keep one out of REM sleep he would wake up faster.....before the beast got so far up the Kip scale... :-/ Jonny....Blake says, "take Dramamine, what the hell" ;D Jacks 8) |

Title: Re: Try it......might just help! Post by Jackie on Aug 2nd, 2003, 6:25pm Last night another Dramamine......Blake only got one hit and it was low on the Kip Scale....15 minutes or so on the 02 and he was OK....had a smoke and back to bed. I didn't hear a peep out of him for nine (9) hours. Kinda scared me....he never sleeps that long. Something is going on for sure... :D I'll say it again....if you haven't tried the Dramamine go for it....just might work. Jacks 8) |

Title: me again Post by rumplestiltskin on Aug 3rd, 2003, 11:17am Quote:
hmmmmm Dramamine: Dimenhydrinate is supposed to be the Antihistaminic, H 1-receptor kind and DramamineII Buclizine OR Cyclizine OR Meclizine are supposed to be the Antiemetic kind. Shit...I wish one of our scientist egghead types would jump in here. It would be nice to know if it mattered. Guess I'll shop around and see if there really are choices in the stores. OK...put O2 in car, put meds in small cooler to keep them from frying in the Texas heat, smokes, keys, coffee, wallet, Indian drum CD.....I'll be right back. d |

Title: Re: Try it......might just help! Post by Ueli on Aug 3rd, 2003, 8:12pm Dimenhydrinate seems to be very popular against travel sickness. Besides Dramamine http://www.rxlist.com/ list lots of other trade names with the same stuff. Dimenhydrinate depresses the middle-ear function. The middle ear not only tells us where up and down is, but also senses accelerations, the ones that on a ship shake the contents of the stomach up and down. ;) How this connects to the suppression of REM sleep I don't know, but the important thing is it helps prevent CH attacks. I think one Dramamine a night is pretty save, after all it is recommended for children too. Another case are people who swallow Dramamine by the fist full, to get a high. For those are the warnings on the Erowid site that Den quoted. PFNADs Ueli |

Title: Re: Try it......might just help! Post by suzy617 on Aug 3rd, 2003, 8:22pm So would this be safe to take everynight while in cycle say for 6-8 weeks or would that be harmful since it keeps you out of REM sleep? I'll be stocking up on them now. Suzy |

Title: Re: Try it......might just help! Post by Mark C on Aug 3rd, 2003, 8:59pm I have also used Doxylamine (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a682537.html) sold under the Kroger Brand as a sleep aid. Worked quite well with no bad side effects, and it's cheap! PFDAN's Mark |

Title: Re: Try it......might just help! Post by catlind on Aug 4th, 2003, 6:38am Suzy, I would think that whether you use the dramamine to stay out of REM sleep, or whether you are awakened from REM sleep by a CH that either way you are not completely REM sleep, so I don't see that there would be much problem. This is of course just my opinion, and I'm no expert on dramamine or REM sleep hehe. Cat |
