Here goes Patrick: Did this some time ago:

I’m asked now and then to add to my description. I’ll try but it it‘s a bit unpolished. Perhaps it will help even in this crude state. What I’ve written is probably five times what I got from Dr. Wright. Here is what he did: He stood up by his desk and held out his arm and asked me if I could make my hand warmer with circulation. He said it’s not strenuous but internal, but not some kind of psychic or meditation thing. It isn’t meditation, yoga, introspection or something you picture or imagine. It’s physical but not some kind of Popeye flexing thing. It is a concentration on circulation. I don’t really know how to describe it but let me try this:

This isn’t what’s happening but maybe if you think of it as an internal flexing or expanding of the artery into the arm while at the same time trying to literally push blood into or filling the arm as if it’s an empty vessel. I used to pretend I was pushing blood down my neck while looking at my shoulder and trying to feel my circulation and at the same time, pushing it over the shoulder and into the arm. It’s nuts, I know, and I’m dead sure that this isn’t what’s going on, but it seemed to help when  I started. It’s second nature now and I can do it while typing. My left hand gets very red and very warm. You can do it with both arms and legs it you want. There is one man who wrote in the guest book long ago, that he stood barefoot on a concrete floor and it would often relieve the headache after a short time. My theory is that the body tries to keep the feet warm with increased circulation. I think this is also the idea behind the exercise theory. Oxygen is needed to work the muscles and there is just so much blood to go around. Maybe this draws just enough to other areas to ease the pressure in the head.  This may  also be why we get the funny posts that sex can sometimes seem to be helpful. This certainly does affect circulation.  Anyway, to me, cold water, exercise, or anything requiring more circulation, seems to be worth trying. My experience is that my “pushing” blood is the most effective and easiest way.

Linda has tried this when not getting hit. It was something I never considered but it makes some sense. I try it now and then

just to make sure I can still do it. It’s easy when I don’t have to fight the pain at the same time.  The other thing is you cannot let up. It will not work if you give up before the attack ends. It will never work if you stop. My attacks would average about 20 minutes, sometimes a bit longer. If I used the technique I could often halve them, sometimes knock them out in 5 or 10 minutes and now and then kill them in less than a minute. That was what I lived for. I never stopped trying as I knew it was possible and  it worked for me, 7 or 8 times out of 10...it never occurred to me not to try.  I would have to regroup a bit during this as it’s not possible to have that much concentration. It is possible not to completely slack off, however. I never gave up. When it works, it’s sudden. It seems to drain away in a few seconds. My suggestion is to not let up immediately when the pain goes. Wait a minute. It never comes back until the next attack though. Dr. Wright said that young people have the best luck because of better circulation. Maybe he was right.  This is the best I can do for now but keep trying. The damn thing does work.

For me, this is something that I got almost immediately. I used it only a few hours later in a restaurant and it worked in less than 10 minutes the first time. What a thing it was. CH was still a horror but its grip on me was greatly lessened. I had a  fighting chance, and I usually won the battle.

DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I've tried Charlie's method with some success, but my error I think was trying my hands, never could make that work real well.  Feet work better for me.

This is the neat thing I just now realized though!!!!!

When you use O2 to abort an attack, what happens in your body, as explained before on here and in other places (look it up I'm too lazy) is that your brain only requires X amount of oxygen.  When it gets too much, the vessels constrict to restrict the flow of oxygen and send it elsewhere in your body!

Charlie's technique works on exactly the same principle!!!!!!  You redirect the blood flow, hence the oxygen, and the vessels constrict, relieving the pain!!!!!

Damn but I'm thick!  Can't believe it took me this long to put 2 and 2 together and figure this thing out!!!!

I will have to work much much harder at making this one work!

Cat
(I just love when I get an Ah ha!, but hate when it takes so damn long!)

Ok Charlie, I completely understand that now, and thank you too Cat.
I want to share something else with ya'll. My wife is Chinese, I am waiting for her to complete her immigration papers and then she will be here with me.
She went and talked to a Doctor, (Chinese do some weird shit that we dont have a clue about)
Her Doctor said for me to run a cool bath and to stick my feet in it and that would make my headaches go away.
Unfortunately, i dismissed it as some quack Doctor crap and never tried it.
Seems that is along the same line as what ya'll are talking about. Hmmmmm, gonna have to start listening to my wife more!!! LOL!!

I'm getting a visual here...

Getting hit with a kip7...

I care about my friends so...

Standing in a bathtub full of ice water, somewhat doing the "Charlie" maneuver while wearing a necklace made of cat bones (ran out of chicken yesterday) tied together with twine (hemp of course) and a grass skirt (nothing underneath) doing the ancient and secretive anti-bronchitis dance (hope yer doing better Big D!!) all while trying to inject myself with a slightly "modified" plunger (thanks jon69) which btw is filled with a nasal spray solution (go Patrick!!!).

My manicurist is trying to get me to get Dave to go to an acupuncturist... or someone that knows Chinese herbalist medicine... maybe she has something too... Charlies method is the bomb.......you just have to be in control during a ch and concentrate... and not let the ch take control.  Its kind of like breathing through childbirth... no one knows why it works other than your not all tense because of the pain... hmmmmmmmmmm something to ponder.  Dave has already said when he is in control... like sucking on 02...it goes better.   Tracey and I spoke of how sometimes when we are in pain we hold our breath... Wouldnt it be something if the cure to all pain is breathing...(02)  LOL  something else to ponder..........ree who is pondering alot today and rambling...........dont be lookin for punctuation we had a bad coupla days.........

Glad some of you are getting this thing. Too bad it only works to stop them and not prevent. It really cut mine down. Always lopped off several minutes and sometimes the whole damn thing. It was great then.

I should work on this desrption

Hey Charlie, I tried it. but i was hurting real bad. Got hit with a 9, and was busy squeezing my head.
But i was wondering, Is it kind of like when you are real cold, and your feet are freezing....So ya briskly rub your toes to get some blood circulating?
Your description makes me think you are willing your blood to your feet, Kind of like Uri Geller bending forks!
I aint sure i can make that transition, Though i frigging want to real bad...lmao!

Title: DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by Carl_D on Aug 2nd, 2003, 6:04pm
Well hell - I've tried just about everything else under the sun, so I'll try this technique as well. Though it is hard for me to concentrate on anything except PULLING THIS UNSEEN FUCKING NAIL OUT OF MY FUCKING HEAD! Aw damnit, I promised myself I'd stop saying the word Fuck, but when I try to avoid it, I feel like my vocabulary is lacking.
Oh, and some of the home remedies I DON'T recommend - a shot of cider vinegar at on-set....drank half the bottle...
putting a plug of bleu cheese under the tongue while rubbing down the chest with cider vinegar...smelled like a ripe salad for days....
oh, and the absofucking worst one yet : rubbing a towel down with Mentholatum, sticking it in the freezer then wrapping the head at on-set...not only did it NOT work, I almost went blind....
I just tried the bloodflow thingy with my hand....hey wait a minute...
If it is a bloodflow thing, maybe masturbation will work. Think about it...the blood leaves one head to go to the other...er, maybe...Tell ya what - I'll try both methods and get back to you ;D
Peace

Masturbation.....There's and idea  :o

Surprise: There must be a dozen or more posts that mention masturbation as helping this or wondering if it would help. It does make sense but if anyone can do it while getting hit, they belong on tv.

I don't know how many times I have to say this: This technique has zero to do with charlatans like Uri Geller or anything at all with wishful thinking, meditation or any form of psychic bullshit. Miss Cleo it ain't.

I don't call it "willing" but if that works for you, fine. It's an actual internal push. It's slight but it's a almost a kind of forced pulse in the arm. It really is a push.

By the way, I showed this to the doc at the con and he felt my hand and said: You're right your hand is warm. He probably thinks it's nuts but at least he didn't say so. I wasn't able to pursue it as I'd like. If only Dr. Wright were still around. I've looked all over and it's nowhere on line. Rats.

Do it a lot between attacks. You might have a better chance. Some clusterheads have some success. I only hope you do.

I am sorry Charlie. I wasnt making fun of it. I was just trying to use a description that made sense to me. I don't know if i can actually do what you are saying, but as i was saying previously, maybe i can find a way to manipulate it with cold water or something like that.

Hey Charlie. It's a good method and as you've seen it's helped many. When I was a kid my mother used to make me do the same thing, pretty much, but I had to picture my blood as sand while I'd do it. It was for other stuff then. But when I got older I'd call her and make me do it then for CHs. It IS a relaxation method, to tell you the truth. But it works by driving the bloodflow away too. I have a good mom and you have a good technique.

Yeah, what Elaine said Charlie.   I think we'll keep you.

Folks the only reason this worked at all for me, is because I practiced doing it while NOT in pain.

I think that's the key. Don't try to start practicing it while you're being hit.  After I got it down in my mind what it was all about, then when I get hit it almost comes naturally and I can do it fast.   After the pain ramps up to a 4 or 5 though,  I have to do something else to abort, so I haven't got it all yet.

Thank you Charlie, for continuing to post your technigue to all the newcomers.  Your fingers must be tired from all that typing.

Not to worry Patrick. I wasn't upset with you at all. I realize most people use some of these popular terms as shorthand.

I pounce on criminals like Uri Geller because he’s as bad as they get. As James Randi says, he would have no problem with him if he would admit he’s a magician doing parlor tricks.

Everywhere we are bombarded with charlatans, cranks. remote viewers and countless purveyors of nonsense. Skeptics and believers in common sense are in the minority and we have to fight back. When cold readers like John Edward get TV shows, it's time we crank up the rhetoric.

Charlie,
I'm learning to do this...even if I look like the kid in X-Men holding the fireball.

The first thing I realized in CH is that even the good stuff that works, only works once in a while.  From vigorous exercise to Imitrex.  They may work one day, but not the next.  I have to rotate the solutions.

I just try to have as many options available, depending on conditions.    & this is one of them.

Do you really want to start me on remote viewing and John Edward? Do you? Do you post this shit just to piss me off? To ruin my day? To make me wish you would get a "visit" from the other side??

Remote viewing and mediums are two very different things. If you talk to Bevy Jaquars, the leader of the US PSI Squad and expert on RV - she would say, "I am not a medium. I am a large." She always cracks me up. May I suggest that before you clump RV in with magicians on TV, that you take the time to educate yourself about it? Start with the US Government. Why not just call up the Pentagon and ask why they CONTINUE to train their military personnel in RV after using it for over 20 years. Or maybe you could look up the US PSI Squad and talk to them about their conitnued training of police officers, FBI agents, etc. The talk to me.

Now you already know how I feel about John Edward. I guess seeing and talking to "dead people" changes your views about people like him. If I die before you, you can guarantee you will hear from me. And you won't need to go on any TV show either. I'll haunt your ass til you realize that being "closed minded" is very very different from being "skeptical".

Oh why do I bother?!

Peace and love and spirits,
Georgia

Yikes Georgia. I really forgot about our little tiff on this stuff.  Maybe I should have put it in a different thread. Too late now  :o

Anyway, as you know, The Pentagon never wastes money on iffy stuff. The US Psi Squad? Is that what they call themselves now? This is similar to Targ & Puthoff who were involved with Stanford, I think with SRV, it’s kinda old though. Art Bell loved it. These were the blokes who convinced a lot of gullible government types that one could affect adversaries’ defenses (missile guidance for example) and godknowswhatelse. They and others got millions for "research" that was allowed to have only one outcome: favorable.  I better quit. I like you sweets so I'll let your neighbors do the rest of the talking:

http://www.ntskeptics.org/cgi-bin/htsearch

By the way, how Den doing? The guy sounded pretty bad in his post.  Shit, if anything, no matter how goofy works, give it whirl. My thing sounds the same to many.

Lemme know kid.   ???
