Title: The Italians' Research
Post by ozzman on Jul 29th, 2003, 8:47am
For lack of a better title, but this is too good or too funny, maybe both.

While reading up on the hypothalamus, I found this site for one of the Italian doctors that is pioneering the "Deep Brain Stimulation", Dr. Gennaro Bussone. The article is pretty good and pretty weird read it and tell me what you think. I particularly like this quote:

Quote:
...the typical features of the preferred victim: a professionally very committed male, belonging to a medium-high socioeconomic stratum, a businessman, an executive, a leader with a stressful life, high stature and sturdy build, most often hazel-eyed and with a broad face (some refer to ‘leonine looks’), often a heavy smoker and drinker, not particularly hypochondriac and often married with a “short and domineering woman”.

Don, you may be meeting this Doc in Rome. Ask him about the "...married with a 'short and domineering woman'"  ;D ;D

I KNEW women were the cause of it!!

The URL is: http://www.cesil.com/leaderforchemist/articoli/inglese/bussoneing/bussoneing.htm

Mia's biting.......

Where do I begin Ozz?  With a last name of Musciano - I've got mucho info to send your way   ;)

My mom is only 4'10" tall....my dad is over 6 feet tall....my dad has NO headaches and my mom has enough for the both of them.  She has vascular headaches, but not diagnosed with clusters since hers go on forever.  Although she's very short, she's a stick of dynomite - VERY controlling.

Me on the otherhand - 5'2" (don't laugh LOL) have had ch's since 1980......and I think I'm just a peach to be around  HA HA HA

I think this doc was drinking too much "dego red wine" when he wrote this   ???

The old stuff never seems to go away.  You just need to look back at the CIBA Clinical Symposia, Volume 33, #2, 1981; Headache, written by Seymour Diamond and Jose Medina.  (I love the illustrations by Frank Netter).  This was recommended reading when I graduated in 1990.  I quote a few gems from this book:

"Most cluster patients are between 20 and 30 years old; 90% are male."

"Typical cluster headache patient:  Usually a large, strong, muscular man.  Face may have "peau d'orange" skin, telangiectases.  Often led into office by petite wife".

The picture with this last quote is hysterical.  (kinda looks like BobP  :-)  )

Fact is, once its in print it doesn't go away.  And too often, the "old guys" are teaching the "young guys".

The bottom line is better education for the Docs and plenty of laughter as a reply to outdated statements and thoughts.

Notice I didn't even comment on the 90% male quote!!

I fit the description perfectly except for the "domineering woman"

If I meet the Doc I will simply say "here I am" and probably be placed in a large vat of formaldyhyde.

In OUCH Italia there is a girl that has 2 electrical stimulators :o... she has been operated in Milan where Dr. Bussone works (he is one of the best doctor for CH in Italy)... honestly it would be the last thing I would do for my CH... :'(

Mha!! My Italian friend always says me that “The women are the ruin of men...” ... I’m very doubtful about it!!!!!! ;D
