Title: Brikalovingwife Post by cathy on Jul 28th, 2003, 2:56pm This is on the supporters board wonder if anyone can help...? I need help. My husband has been suffering diagnosed cluster headaches for four years. This year right now... it's worse than ever. He had been using Maxalt which worked well... about 10 minutes relief. Then our insurance said they would only pay for Imitrex... good for them... well the pills work somewhat but not totally and not quickly at all! Now we are taking Initrex injectables. Which work! BUT, how often can we take them. He has been having 8-10 attacks a day the pas two days. The Neuro just prescribed prednesone... we will begin it tommorw. I am willing to do ANYTHING... I just need it to STOP! Any help out there? Brika |

Title: Re: Brikalovingwife Post by cootie on Jul 28th, 2003, 3:03pm Welcome Brikalovingwife....I guess I need to check the supporters are more often......sorry for yur hubbys pain. Seems to me most I know usein imitrex take it when they need it and they don't count how many pills or injections.......cuz if it works and gives relief then that becomes the way of life with CH. We had to have our doc call our insurence co's physicians hotline to explain why Brad needed more imitrex pills so they would approve more and pay for them. Imitrex seems to work for Brad and Verapimil mix......the pills are slower tho to act. Sorry if I am answerin this in the wrong section.....I'm inbetween projects and just checkin in. (this pooter is too slow to check else where at the moment too) Hope things go ok for you and you find the rite mix. Pam that hopes things go smoother for you once you figure what works and is now goin back to work :) PS: Thanx Cathy :-* |

Title: Re: Brikalovingwife Post by don on Jul 28th, 2003, 3:04pm Prednisone will bring a few days relief but he has to start a preventative along with , or prior to, the pred. treatment. |

Title: Re: Brikalovingwife Post by Kirk on Jul 28th, 2003, 3:14pm I use verapamil 480 mg a day as a preventative. Not perfect but it works most of the time. It took about 2 weeks for it to work so you have to be patient. It will seem like two centuries. TTFN |

Title: Re: Brikalovingwife Post by don on Jul 28th, 2003, 3:36pm Thats why Verap is good to start previous to or at least with the prednisone treatment. When the predisone begins to become ineffective, the verapimil kicks in. |
